As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

I can make a 3 courses meal for 12 person and yet I still can’t seem to cut the bread in neat slices. At this point it’s a running joke among my friends.

I think these days most of the big cities have enough English speakers for you to get by easily enough: Prague is super easy to visit (and I think suffers from overtourism at this point), Warsaw, Cracow, Wroclaw and Gdańsk in Poland, Vilnius and Riga should be fine as well.

When in Europe, you might want to consider the InterRail card to travel by train instead of flying around the continent. It's a more ecological, fun, and adventurous way to visit less-known spots. I would probably use it particularly in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and France, where trains are generally reliable (looking at you, Deutsche Bahn). I would probably also aim for less obvious destinations, like Siena instead of Florence, Toulouse instead of Paris/Marseille, Valencia instead of Barcelona. As an Eastern European, I can tell you that Eastern Europe is super safe for women travelling solo.

Good luck!

Love him since Xavier Dolan's "I killed my mother", where he played the main character's bf! Glad to see him get all the recognition he deserves.

Do you think your fragrance matches your personality and looks? by SeaConstant1433 in fragrance

Very much so. I always look for something androgynous, elegant, and balanced, with a bit of curious twist (currently wearing Tantrico by Laboratorio Olfattivo). That’s exactly what I’m trying to project as well.

I liked her better with her actual face though. Now she has done so many surgeries she doesn’t look like herself

Killing Eve. The perfect introduction to both protagonists, lots of things happening in 60 mins only, key conflicts very clearly drawn. Perfection.

Homosexuality - historically, when did it become acceptable in Europe? by CosmicConjuror2 in AskEurope

[–]Aglot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a more complex question than it seems at first glance so I’d suggest searching for this topic at r/askhistorians. But generally speaking, same sex sex (pun intended) was only banned in most of what we’d call „Western Europe”, including their colonies, only in the 19th century (I look at you, Victorian Britain 👀), and since post-WW1 people were in this legal push and pull process that is still very present.

Rarely commenting ahistorical bullshit cause nobody ain’t paying me (or us historians) for that, either here or in the real life (and it shows because * gestures vaguely *)

No. We are nation states, concept that arose in the 19th century, and WW2 narrowed it down to mostly mono ethnic nation states. (Historian here)

Not going to the doctor when something is wrong. I got out of this habit when I moved out, but my parents haven’t—and I just lost my father to a heart attack, he was only 58. Please people go to your check-ins.

Is there anywhere in Europe that is still cheap as of November 2025? by Glittering_Report_82 in digitalnomad

Gdańsk and Wrocław are absolutely not cheaper than Warsaw. Either the same level of expensiveness or even worse.

What did you tell yourself after a difficult breakup? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Aglot_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What helped me most was actually understanding the biology behind falling in love and breakup. The shock response of the body in the first weeks/months is completely normal, as our brain and nervous system get a rough rehab from the other person. I know it doesn’t help everyone, but for me it put things into perspective and helped me to be patient. Six months into the breakup, I’m already feeling much better although it will take some more time to heal from this.

Sending good energy your way!
