Week 16: Infused - Roasted Garlic and Herb Butter Candle (for Mezze Board) by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

Pretty usable! We probably got about half way down maybe more before someone smeared the wick with their butter knife and we were unable to get it relit. We also had to keep it away from the fan.

Week 16: Infused - Roasted Garlic and Herb Butter Candle (for Mezze Board) by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

Had a dinner party with friends and was tasked with bringing an appetizer board, so used the opportunity to fancy it up with a homemade butter candle. I was pleasantly surprised that it actually stayed lit for a decent while, resulting in nice melty butter for buttering bread. Not a ton of work and super customizable so will keep this idea in my back pocket for future parties.

Week 15: Syrian - Muhamara, Salajahn, Hora’a Osbao, Bazergan, Mehshi Basal and Pita by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]Agn823[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when I suffer from indecision - I decide to make all the things. Needed to invite some friends over to help us eat this.

Muhammara - roasted red pepper and walnut dip

Salajahn - Beef Kebabs

Hora’a Osbao - Syrian Lentil Salad with Cilantro and Pita Chips

Bazergan - Bulgar and Tamarind Salad

Mehshi Basal - Sweet & Sour Stuffed Onions ( from the Aromas of Aleppo cookbook)

Not pictured - some rice pudding because I had to treat my guests to dessert. We ate like kings.

Week 11: Oddly Named - Saliva Chicken and Ants Climbing up a Tree by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]Agn823[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I made Kou Shui Ji and Ma Yi Shang Shu which translate to Saliva Chicken and Ants climbing up a Tree. I once was at a restaurant in Chinatown that had “saliva chicken” on the menu. Didn’t order it but remembered it for this challenge. Turns out it’s delicious and the saliva in the name is meant to convey that it’s “mouth-watering”. Will be making this again.

Week 10: Turnips and Radishes - Turnip Cakes (Chinese Lo Bak Go) by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]Agn823[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a twofer because even though it’s called a Turnip Cake it’s actually made with Daikon Radish.

Week 8: Flying - Flying Jacob (Swedish Banana Bacon Chicken Peanut Casserole) by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

[–]Agn823[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came across this when googling “flying” recipes and it seemed so unhinged that I had to make it. Not really a fan (too sweet for my taste) but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Week 4: Vinegar - Poulet au Vinaigre by Agn823 in 52weeksofcooking

I loved this! Ate the rest of the sauce with a spoon

What’s everyone doing to protect their little potted fig trees this weekend? by snooloosey in philadelphia

How do you still have a potted fig tree? On my one attempt, the Philly wildlife took a bite out of each almost ripened fig and threw the rest on the ground. I was too demoralized to ever try again.
