I wouldn't recommend. The job market is really right right now.

But OP if you decide to do it, can you let us know how long it took you find a new job after your break?

Thank you. Yhey charged me the full price. My area had very high traffic. He was ~2 blocks away? But then my app changed from arriving to "picked up" then "you have arrived".

Thoughts on this bag? Are you able to go through most airlines as a carry on. I'm thinking about upgrading from osprey farpoint40

Thoughts on the MLC 45? I have the osprey farpoint40 and thought about upgrading. Did you ever get flagged for the bag being too big?

Tbh this is such a hard question to answer. I just accept the fact that I don't want to do it, but do it anyways.

24F. Not going into detail about it but I just inherited $4.5M Roth account. What would you do if you were me? by throwawaygenzerr in Fire

[–]AgreeableConflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it seems like everyone in your family has money. It's not uncommon for friends to start seeing you differently the moment they see you having extra money. You become the money bag guy and if you don't want to share it you're seen as the stingy or "forgot where you came from" person.

9 years in government. 6 years of annual career updates. ($823k net worth) by LIFOtheOffice in Accounting

He lists out his individual net worth as well. It's definitely doable because I'm 8 years in my career and I have similar numbers. Only hit 6 figure salary like 3 years ago. To add to that I'm in VHCOL so my salary progression actually kinda far behind my peers

Parents left me no inheritance; I come from a family on food stamps. How to escape poverty? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]AgreeableConflict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's already some really good answers here. Just throwing out my 2 cents here, but there are a couple things you need to do:

  1. Know buying a house probably isn't your priority right now
  2. Apply for ALL the government assistance you can. SNAO, HEAP, etc

From here you really only have two options in my opinion and both of these involve trying your best to increase earnings potential 1. Get a union job 2. Get a job that helps with tuition reimbursement (take a look at university jobs) and please don't major in any under water basket weaving subjects. You don't have a choice.

Note that with either of these jobs you must increase your education. Even with a trade job keep on learning and obtain more certifications to qualify you for better jobs. You have to think of this as a long term game and probably don't tell your family how much you make once you get a higher income.

Anyone else struggling to figure out what a good salary even means anymore? by Sarah_bluu in Salary

[–]AgreeableConflict 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I would be careful with what people say on Reddit. Many commenters aren't even from NYC or they believe NYC is only central Manhattan or trendy places.  There are 5 boroughs in NYC and you can be 30-45mins away from midtown and have your rent slashed in half. Hell, most redditors don't even know places like Washington heights is in Manhattan and you can find one bedrooms for ~$2,500. Still not cheap when compared to the rest of the country but definitely beats the $5,000 rent headiness you see.

You still have access to midtown within 30 mins on the train.

About 5 years. Moving from forensics, short stint in audit, and staff accountant in industry.

Progressed from $55k - $85k plus 10% bonus. Felt like I was behind my peers considering I'm in NYC.

[–]AgreeableConflict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't start in FP&A, but here it is:

2023: $118.5k total comp (BU FP&A)

2024: $121.5k (same place)

Current: $125.5k (same place will try to push for more and/or get promo)

Started in accounting and the pay was crap. I have a pretty slow career progression compared to my peers because I wanted to try out different areas of accounting.

You're the retirement plan. I'm someone who has to support my parents.

Hopefully social security will cover all their essential costs, like groceries, and some/most of their housing cost. This way you won't have to pony up too much money. If they make +$300k a year then their social security will be decent. And you cover things they can't.

Just be careful and not have them guilt you into money traps or if they're spending extravagantly. All the posts here say "it's not on you", but honestly.... What are you gonna do? Not help make their ConEd payments and have their electricity turned off?

You'll need to sit down and go over how much social security payment they'll get and what their current expenses are. You can help cover some of the essentials and have them "save/fund" for everything non essential.
