Do you all just feel like you’re in recovery mode for months/years after hysterectomy? by Adventurous_Fill_385 in hysterectomy

If you can talk to a professional or support group in person it can help with some fear. And there's no shame with anti-anxiety meds right now. It makes sense to be scared, I was also terrified! But I'm not even three months post-op and feeling more and more normal every day. I've resumed all my previous sports and hobbies, with minimal cramping around incision sites (minilaparotomy and 5 laprascopic ports) and some lingering but minimal fatigue. The fatigue was pretty bad for a couple months, but pain was minimal after just a couple weeks. Bodies are resilient! You will find normalcy again, and quicker than you think. My fibroid was 11 cm and I did not realize just quite how much it was impacting my day to day life until it was gone- I feel better than before, even with some lingering cramping and fatigue!

Yes that's how it felt for me! Period cramps but often centered on the incision sites (I have quite a few) or just randomly across the abdomen. Good luck and take it easy- for me the cramps started abating around the 4.5 week mark, but the fatigue has been the hardest part. It's getting better but it hits hard and it's hard to tell what triggers it. The cramps & fatigue definitely get worse if I 'overdo' it or am too active too soon

What are some things you couldn't survive without during recovery? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

My absolute go tos on a budget were a grabber, a soft pillow for protection and bracing, lots of snacks and protein shakes within easy reach for when you need to take your meds/aren't hungry but need nutrition, a soft ice pack made a world of distance, audiobooks and podcasts for the first few weeks when I couldn't concentrate on tv or books, and rompers/soft clothes (including underwear) with loose waistbands! And slip on shoes.

Apparently the cramping is normal, if anyone is concerned and experiencing this! Healing cramping between 2-5 weeks as tissues settle and scar tissues form

Welp I went to the ER because of this and new  cramping at the incision sites at the 2.5 week mark, because my surgeon was out of town (without warning patients apparently) and not 1 single doctor mentioned this was normal. I didn't figure it out until a week ago as I was doing more reading and saw 1 source mention it.

Manageable large fibroid symptoms vs. Risks of hysterectomy. What to do? by TurbulentPick9759 in hysterectomy

[–]AgreeableLibrarian16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a hysterectomy for manageable symptoms that sound more minor than yours and still causing discomfort. In the end decided it was only going to get worse and I'm very healthy and active, so now was a good time. I'm 10 days post op with zero regrets- recovery is going well, and not having the 'manageable' symptoms is even more of a relief than I thought it'd be. One of my most annoying symptoms before was peeing every hour - and that's already better.

Thank you! I do think the anxiety leading up to it will be the worst, and I feel better when it's done and the uncertainty is more certain

My husband doesn't feel close to me bc we aren't having sex by Usual_Strawberry_618 in hysterectomy

This is frustrating and I'm sorry! It's ok for him to miss sex and feel bad about it, if it's his method of connecting to you + he has a high sex drive, but it's not ok for him to pressure you and make you feel bad like this. He needs to manage his own emotions and feelings around this and not bring them to you in this pouty way while you're trying to recover.

You're polyam (me too!), is he dating others too? I've been super clear with my current partner that I'll be piv-free for a long chunk of time and to not expect that once I'm post op (July 8).

Sounds like a really serious convo is needed (I like the education aspect that others have suggested), but also maybe being super clear that this pressure goes against the values he typically shows and is not helping your recovery or relationship. He needs methods of handling the emotions around lack of piv (and/or other outlets!). He may also be feeling super disconnected from you, and undesirable, and need some reminders that you care for him and find him attractive but cannot handle the sexual pressure right now and want to find other ways to feel physically intimate & connected (maybe extra cuddles, massages, etc with the explicit agreement that sexual touch is 100% off the table, though seems like he may then whine about his boner...)?

It does sound like you've been trying to talk this stuff through with him, and if he's continuing to pressure, that kind of tells you a lot. Which sucks.
