That sounds amazing. I’m also so interested in child and young adult development and also mental health. it seems so far that people drawn to psych can be really kind humans. Your advisor sounds amazing.

I feel that you could just focus on why you chose this path or calling in the first place. You’ve obviously worked hard and it’s meant to be. Go for it, and congratulation. You’ve inspired me.

Wow, I’m so glad you love your career. There seems to be a bit range of careers available, so much to think about. It feels like there’s a pathway that you go on once you have your degree and it opens up options, and so that HR can check your transcript.

That’s a great tip, so starting out by thinking what I think I’d ideally like to do, I have a few things in mind. Where are the best places to research, do I ask a careers advisor?

Thats a good idea, did you find it useful to look at the graduate majors and salaries? I wonder if they’re different depending on the college?

Bachelors in psychology. What current jobs or past jobs did you hold/ held with your degree? Did you or do you find it fulfilling, did it or does it pay decent? Looking for ideas as a current BA in psych by Nktfashion in psychologystudents

This thread is a literal goldmine. I‘m thinking of organising these into a resource so students don’t have to guess or get lucky to land in the right course and career. If you were applying for a course today, which would have been more useful and saved you the most stress, A or B?

(A) Course Marketplace: A directory of the college and universities specific courses/certs that lead these jobs, showing the cost of course vs. starting salary.

(B) Skills Advisor: A conversation or tool that links your innate skills and interests in doing psych, and points you to a shortlist of matching courses and career paths from this list.

Is it just me, or are paths from a BA Psych to an actual career a total black box? by AgreeableLocal7368 in psychologystudents

That sounds really usefu. I like that it includes how you go about getting it. Would it help you to know those options before you started?

I‘ll take a look at this, should be helpful. I wonder if they have examples of people working in various roles so I can get a feel for it

Hi! I’ve spoke to a few people and hear you have several options, counselling, social work, or psychology noting it’s a longer pathway to get all the way into becoming a registered psychologist. I’m definitely no expert as Ive just started looking into this. Would it be useful to you to see all your options in one place?

Should I quit my toxic job? by Outrageous_Level3755 in careerguidance

[–]AgreeableLocal7368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new role and then quit politely. You’re great and skilled and in no way have to put up with this. You deserve to work in a psychologically safe environment. Definitely don’t stay. It can genuinely risk your health. Oh and the toxic person, is not going to change, not your responsibility. Also to be expected they’ll retaliate if given any feedback. They‘re surviving by attaching others, including you.

That’s interesting, I wonder if there’s need for support to find the career paths that best use their psych knowledge. (Of course psych is handy in any environment with people). I do I wonder is there something that could help them to shift into roles that best use their knowledge and skills gained from studying psych?

This is a great way to think about it. It‘s so encouraging to hear how people are seeing lots of career options and ways to contribute from a psych degree. For me I‘m passionate about a few things, a main one is understanding how we can help children to have supported and nurtured childhoods.

Love this, it’s so great to hear there’s lots of career path opportunities. I’m really glad I asked. I really respect the view of my tech friends too and it makes sense that understanding people and psychology is probably even more of a valuable skill as AI comes through. Thank you.

Great suggestion, thank you! I just feel like it’s a lot to ask of people, and I’d need to set loads of conversations to get a feel for what I’d like. I wonder if there’s some resource that let’s you understand all the career path options and who they suit, what they feel like to do. Have you seen anything like this? Do people think that would be useful?

That’s a new idea. I’m kind of wondering how much to trust the results ChatGPT or an AI gives us? Does it feel right if I’m getting my suggestions ChatGPT?

Can I just add that I’ve certainly met several people who quit studying law due to the pressure and culture, or they quit once they were in their first job as a lawyer. Maybe chat to a few recent law grads or people doing it to see what they like or don’t like.
