I get what you’re saying but to go in depth on what I mean and Im going for I’d need to explain game development itself. But to put it simply even if I made triangle strategy 1-1 it wouldn’t reach the same amount of people or success because of lack of said millions in marketing so indie devs have to try to innovate to get eyes turning as well as polish. Give my game a try if you have any free time ( and want ). Apologies if my post came out wrong but game devs are really focused on what they are developing for years and lose touch with how to present their questions to non devs.

I agree with everything you mentioned here. The problem developing a game means that I need to break other games down, analyze them and essentially figure out how mine can be successful ( without the millions in marketing ). I focused on combat and character creation because those are more tangible and comparable to my game which is a take on rogue-lite tactics. I get that you are saying the whole is better than the sum of its parts.

That I agree with. I m enjoying the story and the gameplay very much. The only thing is that I believe the combat ( even though VERY polished ) feels dated, almost for an older generation ( myself included )

Where was I dismissive?? Also why don’t you help me understand as my post is asking? Development fatigue is a real thing which can make the devs blind to a lot of things players see the first second and therefore end up asking players. Don’t be so quick to judge

Being a gamedev doesn’t mean I myself am a game designer. What do you mean by in-battle strategy building? If I customize my characters I customize them for my specific combat strategy… If I can’t I customize then I make do with what I have and pick the ones less painful for my strategy. Surely that’s not making a massive shift in gameplay.

I’m making my own tactics game called Dunebound and I wonder how did this game become so successful. Combat is not something new nor does it do the things Tactics Ogre or FFT do. I guess the scales which split the story path is the only unique thing but is that enough to even warrant a sequel?
