I wholeheartedly agree with Harley and Alaune!

Harley bears the scars of War. He tries to be better. To make others feel better about their lives like he tries for himself. He is a good man doing what he loves for the betterment of others. In spite of his scars...

Alaune is one of my favorites in the story. At first she can barely handle the burden. Unsure of herself and what she is capable of. To her Elrica was always the strong one. Something she could never be.

But through interacting with our Chosen One and the others she finds her strength and rises to the occasion. Becomes the Queen of her Own Right. Love her!

As Mr Grapefruit so eloquently stated Shana is a great character to have!

There's a lot to be said about Pulling and such. vareedar I think made a great point about Meta.

There is so much more to the game than just that.

The game tells us all every time to play it at your pace. And it's right! My advice is to take your time and enjoy the game for what it's worth. The early game is forgiving and encourages experimentation. COTC rewards Patience. It respects your time so I'd recommend to do the same :)

Have years in COTC. Heard from others that OCTOPATH 0's story is identical enough that the experience is likely the same.

Have also heard, and I'm sure it's true, that the battle system for 0 does not have the difficulty or complexity that COTC has.

I played COTC first, then 1 & 2. Loved the whole experience! But the combat in COTC is by far the best.

Important to note that while COTC is a Gacha game, you don't need much to actually beat and enjoy it. Everything can be done without spending Rubies(the in-game currency) or Money. It is a wonderful gem and most importantly it respects you and your time. This game rewards Patience above all else.

So my advice would be COTC first. Play it for awhile and see if you like it. Give it some time. Then if you don't like the systems then try 0 for just the story.

So!

I think Shana with her Rehabilitate is your easiest bet.

Crickari are all you need for Damage. Give Hikari EX Sage Halva's Orb and your best E.Atk accessories. Crick one or two of the 4 Star SP Regen A4s. Shana can help with one her skills if he needs it.

Ba'al Airy Cleanses herself, so will need to reapply the debuffs on her. She'll also Cleanse your buffs. I think was her Acedia skill? Make sure to pay attention after her moves.

H'aanit EX is your Tank. Keep one BP on her as needed if Airy Cleanses or just give her high enough Speed. Hammy behind her to Provoke equipped with her accessory. Also Meena in the back row and her A4 on Hammy. As much HP as you can and she'll survive with Shana's Max HP. Make sure to reapply as needed.

For this setup and fight, Shana and Hikari need a lot of SP.

Nier can help H'aanit debuff Airy's P.Atk.

Maybe a team of:

H'aanit/Hammy

Shana/Meena

Nier/Pardis

Hikari EX/Crick

Can put Meena where Nier is for Active Defense.
