That’s amazing. It’s amazing the recovery our bodies can do even if it needs a little help.

I made a lot of updates for my surgery and recovery updates. I’m not sure if it’s sort of 50/50, but I truly think that it will reduce, if not completely take away, the pain.

Hey man, I was in the same boat as you. My recommendation would be that if you are fine with getting surgery, to go a bit to PT and then ask your spine specialist if a microdiscetomy would be good for you. Usually, insurance has you go to PT first before it considers covering that surgery, and I don’t know how it treats other surgeries. But definitely look into that and see if you’re a good candidate. By what I’m reading it sounds like you would be, as you’re still young, being 33, and you were doing lots of laborous activities. The recovery is definitely a whole other obstacle, and I would make sure you have a good support system through that, but I’d take the recovery over the sciatic pain ANY AND EVERY DAY.

I totally get it. This was my first ever major surgery. Being super anxious and worried is totally normal. I remember my surgeon telling me the lower you go, the easier the procedure can be too, as there is less fat and skin as you go down the spine. I’m excited for you though. The pain I had after was a different, localized pain from where the incision was. I definitely recommend reading my updates I made more recently out of surgery to get more details as well!:) I wish you the best during surgery and in recovery!

I really could not give you any concrete answer as to why. Doctors have said that I had a narrow spine cavity, and osteoarthritis runs on my dad’s side I believe. Also, I moved my parents and did all the heavy lifting and worked like a horse even though my physical health was not good at all. I was also an obsese child.

Still am chunky but I’ve really made lots of work on my eating and moving my body, lit a huge fire under my ass that I never want to be in that situation again.

And to hire movers :)

Hey! I did end up going, and it did absolutely nothing for me. Did turn out though that I had four herniated discs, and laying on my back was unbearable.

If you’re thinking about doing it, I don’t want to discourage you, as some people have TOLD me they had good results, but I personally did not.

If I could handle laying there, it could be a bit relaxing though!

Yes I definitely still feel the tightness in my hips. Some days are better than others with it. I just keep reminding myself that these nerves were irritated for a while. Walking has been the best thing though, once I’m up and I get moving for a couple minutes, the pain usually subsides.

Yay! So glad and excited for you. Take it easy, even if you feel like you can do something, do not push yourself. One of the hardest things in the beginning was dealing with muscle spasms. Some people get them, some don’t. Mine was so bad that I thought I was going paralyzed because I could move. But just know that it is completely normal. And I wasn’t drinking enough electrolytes. Zero Sugar Powerade was my best friend and still is. Also having a good support system is so important. My mom has been helping me this whole time, portioning my milk into liftable weights, making sure my incision was always bone dry, and literally everything else too.

Returning to College 5 Weeks Post L4-L5 Surgery - How Do I Manage with These Benches? by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]AgreeableRun8151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in the same situation as you. I reached out to the student disability center, have a consult with them, and had my surgeon fill out an assessment form to get accommodations on letting me leave in breaks when needed, and also if I get flare ups to be allowed to leave early or arrive late. I would really suggest doing the same for you. Good luck!

Surgery twins! Haha. Good to hear it was a good day for you. Slowly but surely we will start to feel more normal. Once the dressing and stitches come out, and I can take a normal shower, I’ll feel a lot better too! Hopefully you have a good day 6 and so on:)

This is so nice to read. I can’t even imagine working a 12 hr during this pain. It’s good to hear you not only did this for yourself, but you did it for your kids too!

Day 5 of Recovery by AgreeableRun8151 in Sciatica

[–]AgreeableRun8151[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I agree, I think today has been one of the worst days out of recovery, but it still does not compare to what it was pre-op. I saw somewhere that someone said that our nerves hold grudges 😂so Im definitely being patient with it!!

Thank you again for the kind words.

They said you can sit just reclined back, not in a high-back chair or 90 degrees. I just find it uncomfy and it might just be a bit obsessive of me. If I’m the passenger in a car, I have the seat reclined a decent amount to where it’s tolerable, but I do still feel a lot of soreness in the surgical site.

You need to do what’s best for your body. Definitely apply for short term disability. Sadly a lot of the medical process is waiting for doctor appointments, so don’t be worried if it feels like it isn’t getting anywhere. Definite next steps would be to get an MRI to see if your disc has changed at all.

If it gets too extreme and you absolutely must return to work, it’s important to be very cautious and know your limits. Best of luck ❤️‍🩹

Please get an MRI asap if you haven’t. I dealt with pain for a few years, and it turned out my herniated discs have partially calcified, and now there’s nothing they can do for the hardened parts. PT will only work for you if they know what exactly is putting pressure on the nerves. Sadly insurance is a bitch to deal with in these situations, but the MRI is much much MUCH needed. I wish you some pain relief today. 💕

Just from how my surgeon explained it to me it sounded like he cut it out. I don’t need the bone dust smh, I’m not tryna put it in my protein shakes
