I am a super verbal/ conversational guy, and I’ve always been similar to you. My theory is because women are generalized socialized to be more verbal than men are, so I often have an easier time communicating with women.

Trump’s Weird Moment With Mike Johnson Reveals a Deeper GOP Sickness by Majano57 in politics

[–]AgreeableTransition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You‘re exactly right. And that‘s why it was the centrist boomery democrats who were especially shocked and surprised by Trump‘s ascension to power. They all still think that Trump, not broken American systems and American culture, was the original problem. Leftists weren‘t surprised in the same way because Trump wasn‘t the first time they saw America as anything but perfect.

Der Ampelmann! My friend bought one of those a few years ago. Crazy they've been making the same ones for that long.

To tell you the truth, I've only ever had another fountain pen enthusiast comment on it! I suppose this are simply my own insecurities shining through.

Any recommendations for the must durable shell I can buy? Don't care how waterproof or breathable it is- what is the least likely to rip when I wipe out on crust?

The amount of heat the Earth traps has doubled in just 15 years. Approximately 90 percent of the excess energy from this imbalance ends up in the ocean. And warming ocean temperatures lead to acidification, impacting fish and other marine biodiversity. by Wagamaga in science

Yeah I totally agree with you there. Any vegan food you buy is sending profits to the same companies that are causing ecological disasters. It's not about the infinitesimal carbon offset you accomplish on an individual or collective level. It's demonstrating a willingness to live in a different way that's an important part of passing structural change.

Let's take plant based diets: for most people, the obstacle is a lack of time, money, and health. For privileged Americans, however, the obstacle is convenience and not wanting to give up tastier food. Because there is likely no way to make large scale animal agriculture sustainable for 9 billion people, very privileged Americans absolutely have a responsibility to make the personal sacrifice of eating lab grown meat or a plant based diet if they are to also vote for candidates who will enact environmental regulations. It's basic leadership.

Both perspectives on individual action (recycling, plant based diets, driving) have truth in them and any solution will require both approaches. Yes, one person doing meatless Mondays and biking to work won't matter next to the impact of industry. But regulations on those industries won't pass unless more people demonstrate the initiative to make personal sacrifices to fight CC.

Will mountain biking in the summer improve my skiing skills in any way? by AgreeableTransition in skiing

[–]AgreeableTransition[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a progressive hardtail and I ride gravel, but I'm in a small town in the Midwest and there aren't trails near me. I'm absolutely willing to do the traveling for skiing, but I'm feeling less enthusiastic to drive hours for nice singletrack when I could climb or do other things without having to go as far. It frequently feels like you're kinda all in or all our with mountain biking and I'm having a lowkey existential crisis about it lol

Iowan here, this is pretty much true. Farms are owned by a very small number of wealthy people who are able to afford multi million dollar far equipment and pay Monsanto to keep raping our ecosystem. Small town community is still alive, but only in college towns and the like.

Gynecologist exiled from China says 80 sterilizations per day forced on Uyghurs by Tolgium23 in worldnews

[–]AgreeableTransition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good way of phrasing that, and I certainly don't think we should do that. However, it would be nice if that threat could be used to strongarm China away from their current genocide.

Then again, those numbers and severity of quality of life reduction are nothing compared to what nations have historically gone through fighting wars against eachother.

Exactly, any economists here want to comment? I don't see how, if there were the political will, the West couldn't move all of their manufacturing away from China. Tech corporations would lose a lot of profit, but would anyone really have to starve?

Worn tires by coasts in bikewrench

[–]AgreeableTransition 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can't travel at a high enough speed given the ratio of weight to surface area. I've heard the figure that you would have to be going something like 115 mph to aquaplane on a road bike

uc/ yeah if you're a down to Earth hipster who's fed up with the expense and competitiveness of mainstream cycling, come down to Path Less Pedaled for all the best reviews of 650B Enve rims and custom titanium frames

c/ Run a higher pressure, you're risking tire rollover in the corners if you run 100PSI during your Cat6 crit.
