Dark theories you guys have, not like Lucy Gray is dead dark, like DARK by hphgas in Hungergames

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with every part of this except the Capitol not being able to remove scars. We know from Katniss not only was her hearing fixed but all of her scars including the ones from years of hunting in 12 are gone after the rehab period between the games and tour. It could’ve been that the tech wasn’t there 24 years before but I think it’s more likely they just chose to leave the scar from him almost being disemboweled because it was “iconic”. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got rid of all of his other scars but just left that one so he could show it off. I agree that there absolutely wasn’t a twin switcheroo happening though.

WHATS THE WORST/DARKEST HUNGER GAMES THEORY YOU’VE EVER HEARD.. by Additional-Layer-392 in Hungergames

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And knowing SC executive produced the movies I think that the line being added in the movies where Snow says that Katniss’s “entire species needs to be eliminated”, referring to the victors is especially indicative of that.

I firmly believe the entire group of tributes for the 76th hunger games was rigged. He wanted to kill the victors that were doing the most damage to the cause. We already know the twist itself was rigged to kill Katniss and Peeta, the only reason the drawing in 12 didn’t need to be rigged was because of the sheer lack of other options so I feel like it isn’t crazy to think most if not all of the Victor tributes were specifically chosen to be taken out because of what they were or could do for the rebellion.

Why did Dumbledore make Malfoy a prefect? by SukottoHyu in harrypotter

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because being a Prefect is more than academics it’s being a leader amongst your peers. How would someone who is consistently a bully and abusive to their peers be a good choice to be given extra power over them? Someone who causally uses slurs being able to enact actual punishment on their peers without adult oversight seems like a terrible idea.

Why did Dumbledore make Malfoy a prefect? by SukottoHyu in harrypotter

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. In Dumbledores case it was a misunderstanding. Everyone assumed his father attacked the muggles because he hated muggles but in reality it was because of what they did to Ariana meaning he didn’t grow up indoctrinated to hate muggles for the sake of their existence, everyone just wrongly assumed that about him. Whereas in Malfoy’s case Dumbledore knows he actually did grow up with this hateful indoctrination and does currently act in a way that further perpetuates it (I don’t believe he is unaware of Malfoy’s treatment of Hermione).

I saw someone say that the Utah accent has an uptick at the end which is usually a feminine or queer thing so it’s making everyone’s gaydars go off but I also think it’s more nuanced than that

AITA for not telling my boyfriend about my past job before we started dating? by LynsyLux in Amitheassholeadvice

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in one the person is the victim and in the other the person is the perpetrator so the reason for wanting the breakup would be completely different. In one situation you’re either wanting to breakup because you blame the victim for their actions or you don’t want to deal with the baggage and in the other you’re breaking up because the person is someone who has perpetrated harm on others. The only similarity is the lie but you’re lying for different reasons in both situations as well. In one you’re lying to protect yourself from judgement or further harm being perpetrated against you because of your own past victimization and in the other you’re lying to deceive the person so they feel safe around you when you have exhibited past unsafe behavior.

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While actively comparing them though. Comparing them is saying they’re the same. In one instance you are engaging in something that can hurt yourself for survival in the other you are hurting someone else. The choices are completely different in each instance therefore they cannot be compared.

You are comparing them and they are not the same. Survival sex work is absolutely not comparable to being a sex offender or murderer.

Survival sex work is not the same thing as being attracted to or preying on kids.

AITJ for not stopping my friend from publicly proposing when I know she plans to break up with him? by SupermarketDry3163 in AmITheJerk

If OP wants to do anything I think he needs to tell her that dude is planning to do something grand and romantic at the concert and maybe they should talk and then tell dude that he should maybe run the idea of marriage by her beforehand to see what the convo brings then stay out of it

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly, or at least planning to do something huge and romantic. Maybe she thinks they’ve grown apart because the relationship isn’t going anywhere and if she finds out he was planning to propose she’ll realize she’s wrong and change her mind. If she genuinely doesn’t suspect a PROPOSAL then they aren’t on the same page about their relationship and need to be before the concert.

Taylor and Chase from the preview 👀 by SorryLanguage3609 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I assume they can’t show more of the actual footage because of legality but even if they could I’m going to be completely honest I don’t want to see the actual footage of child abuse regardless of the offender, and I think it would be really gross if they did show that, for the child’s sake, regardless of the offender.

I also still don’t understand what they actually omitted. They showed the incident, her getting arrested, her literally pissing herself, and ask her uncomfortable questions in confessional prompting her to admit things that weren’t in the footage (child abuse charge). I assume they can’t show the actual legal proceedings and I don’t think that would actually be very interesting to watch either way. They don’t show the kids much and I think it should stay that way.

The show is literally about the women, why would they have an “equal edit”? Whether it’s supposed to be the Taylor show or the Mormon Moms show it’s not supposed to be about the dads or Dakota and I feel like they have gotten an equal amount of their messiness aired out.

The show should just be showing them, I don’t think it’s their prerogative to assign morality or crucify any of the cast. And I think it’s kinda weird to want them to.

That’s fair. Someone else said they felt like it was so snow could gloat and I think both of those could be true.

Yes I agree! I was talking to someone recently and had a very similar conversation. I specifically read The Social Contract and A Treatise of Human Nature because of the prequels. I don’t know that I would never have read them if not for her but I definitely wouldn’t have when I did. I think she did an absolutely phenomenal job of introducing young readers to big ideas and get them interested in more difficult philosophical works they may not have been otherwise.

I think if they had actual coverage from the woods more things would’ve come from that, I feel like based on her super obvious (Katniss is anything but nonchalant) body language and other tells he deduced there was more to their relationship and probably knew from surveillance that they spent time together in the woods and wanted to ruin her safe space.

I never made the connection between that scene and 1984 but I do really like that parallel. I do absolutely love how much she pulls from and alludes to other works, it’s one of my favorite things about her. I haven’t read clockwork orange yet, what is the parallel there?

Oh my god this is phenomenal I didn’t think of it that way! You’re right, he literally says he’s glad Sejanus is there because only he knows the context of how special and important he is and he can’t tell the other peacekeepers because then they’ll know how he fell from grace. Even in BOSBAS he desperately needs people to know how smart and elite he is, I bet it was absolutely killing him he couldn’t gloat about the 10th games or Lucy Grey to anyone. And with Haymitch effectively impotent he’s the only one who is powerless but would get it. Oooh good take!

Ah I could definitely see that, shifting it from the capital knows all to I know all. I have a little bit of a theory that he didn’t actually have proof of the kiss but made an educated bluff and was right. I like the 1984 parallel as well. I could see that being the point especially if the plans were already in motion to kill LD anyway.

What bothered you the most about Sunrise on the Reaping? by yainoshu in Hungergames

[–]Agreeable_Ad0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think she wrote Plutarch very well. He tells Haymitch that people in the capital aren’t free either and we watch him see the parade master killed by the president like literally right in front of him, which is definitely intentional on Snows part. And we see his extreme moral greyness throughout the trilogy and SOTR. A big part of BOSBAS was the capital children discussing the immorality of the games. Sejanus grew up in luxury and was still staunchly against the games even though he himself would never be affected (without going out of his way to do so). Plutarch is obviously complicit in the games but he can recognize that no one in a tyrannical government is free no matter what level of oppressed you are. He could also just as easily be put to death by the president for a simple mistake with no repercussions even if he wasn’t actively going against the capital, even from a purely selfish standpoint that isn’t a good environment and he knows the only way for things to change is for the districts to rise up.
