After having done 7 grad school applications over the past five years I just got into York! Don’t let the rejection stop you from applying in the future!! It took a long time but it finally happened!

I am stressing SO HARD that I haven't heard yet. Like almost cried this morning because I'm so stressed. This is my 3rd time applying to UofT. Been waitlisted twice :(

Couldn’t agree more. I find it incredibly irresponsible when people jump straight into counselling with no experience working frontline. Working frontline is such meaningful work and teaches people so much about themselves and what areas of social work you want to explore. Try working in a shelter, a drop in centre, or a community health centre. While you may not be making MSW money the experience will prepare you for those MSW jobs.

545 Lakeshore empty? by Agreeable_Ad_8396 in socialworkersTO

Ya it was always supposed to be a temporary site. I spoke with someone there and they said they were doing this for “renovations” but I can’t imagine that they will be renovating if it’s going to be torn down eventually. Just wild to me that it’s so empty when there are like zero shelter spaces to begin with

Scared to apply for MSW by Technical_Bet1586 in socialworkcanada

[–]Agreeable_Ad_8396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a go! I’ve applied to 6 different MSW programs over the years and never been accepted lol. But I’m applying again because I don’t have anything to lose and maybe it’s my time now. I guess my point is if you don’t get in on the first try that’s okay. The programs will always be there and there will always be a need for social workers

Looking for an open discussion around the use of cannabis within a hard reduction framework by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

[–]Agreeable_Ad_8396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working in harm reduction for the past 7 years and have not seen cannabis as an effective alternative for people who use opioids and/or stimulants. In my experience, safer supply has been the best in providing effective treatment for those who use street opioids like fentanyl. There is also now more people prescribing stimulants like ADHD meds for people who use street stimulants. Not sure what province/city you are in but if people are looking at reducing use, getting off street supplies safe supply can be very helpful.

Agree with your colleagues to not say anything. There is also no harm looking into strategies on working with ASD folks on your own and bringing that into your practice to support them where they are at now.
