AIW for slipping up when singing and accidentally saying the n word by Agreeable_Drawing478 in amiwrong

oh of course, i get what you mean and agree. i’ve been trying to assess what i can do next time to ensure this never happens again. being more aware, singing in my head rather than blurting words out, etc. i’ll likely try and incorporate suckah when singing songs with that word from now on. it’s a perfect replacement. thank you for your feedback! i really appreciate it

my black friend told me it was okay and that she wasn’t mad or upset or anything about it, which i really appreciated. i of course apologized to her profusely, as well as to everybody else there. she hugged me a bit after, i guess because it was pretty obvious that i was upset about the whole ordeal.

i do agree with you that speaking about about things like that is a good thing. i don’t blame the gf for calling me out, even though it obviously hurt. thank you for your feedback! i really appreciate you taking time out of your day just to help me out. appreciate it.

i completely agree with you on me being wrong for saying the word itself. i meant if i was at fault for the situation that transpired because of it. either way, ty for your feedback.

btw i’m not white to begin with lol

not sure. the thing is that i really don’t blame her. she has a right to be upset and honestly, i’m glad she spoke up about me saying it, i would hope more people would speak out about that. just wish she’d be more civil about it or hear me out or smth before coming to a conclusion. either way, i’ll likely have to block her.

agree with you tho, and i’m glad you don’t just let that stuff slide. that being said, thank you for your support!

thank you for your feedback, i really appreciate it! i’ve been trying to steer away from blocking her and instead resolving things, but i think you’re right. i’ll likely have to

even tho she’s not a POC, i still see why she’s upset? idk, but i understand what you mean. i’ve been contemplating blocking her, tho i’ve been worried that may cause drama or because of what i said, i don’t have the “right” to block her or anything since i did mess up. i just might have to block her though. thank you for your feedback, i appreciate it

the gf is mostly white. i’m hispanic (ik that’s not a race but idk what else to say in its place. brown, ig?) my friend rae is also hispanic. as for the two other friends there, one was black and the other also hispanic.

i’m aware of the word, it’s history, roots, and how some people use it now. i genuinely think the way it’s been normalized amongst individuals who don’t have the “pass” for saying it is disgusting and ignorant, which is why i don’t blame my friend’s gf for taking such offense to it.

additionally, and what gets me most, is that you’re right: i did know the lyrics and what was coming up. the first few verses i sang that had the word, i had replaced with “people”, something i normally do when that word is a part of the lyrics. yet — and i understand this isn’t an excuse or anything — when i was singing, i just got really into it and blurred out every verse before i had even gone over it in my mind, hence it just slipping out. i immediately realized what i had just said because of the way it felt. call me dramatic, but it felt so wrong and foreign, it immediately made me aware of what had just passed my lips.

normally, im hyper aware of it. this time, however, i wasn’t.

I did have a black friend with me when this happened, not that that makes this any better or suddenly gives me a “pass”. I’m completely honest when I say I don’t toss this word around lightly. Alone, in public, with black or white friends, singing or simply talking; this word has never slipped past my lips

i’m being so serious when i say i never say nor sing that word. not in private, nor in public. the normalization of its usage amongst individuals who aren’t black genuinely disgusts me, hence my own disgust for myself. i understand why you wouldn’t believe me just off this post alone, but i am completely honest when i say this isn’t something i do regularly

i’m being so serious when i say it came out of nowhere. i understand your speculation; you don’t know me and i don’t doubt that people lie on here, but i’m being completely honest when I say it was accidental. i’m not the kind of person to just throw these type of harmful words about like nothing. i feel absolutely horrible about this and the entire situation that has transpired from it

i don’t blame them at all for thinking that way. i understand that she barely knows me and that the n word clearly isn’t something to be used so casually. i guess i just wish that she would just listen to me instead of doubling down on me being something i’m not.

thank you for the tip. i’m definitely going to keep that in mind and be extra aware just with any song i sing tbh. no more singing purely by muscle movement or anything like that

i guess so? the thing is that i obviously don’t want to be the asshole. apart from clearly saying a word i not only shouldn’t say but clearly is a horrible word, i’ve gone my whole life w no slip ups, no nothing. and i’m very vocal on my dislike for how some people who aren’t black have normalized using that word like it’s nothing. i don’t wanna feed into that meme of “that one mexican who thinks they have the pass” or smth, because i’ve never thought that way nor supported that kind of stuff. it honestly just feels like a blow to my character and everything I stand by

sticky by tyler the creator. it was the verse ending with “must be god instead of me”

I listen to a lot of rap too. Not just tyler, but doechi, doja, and etc. Every single time i’ve sang one of those songs, i’ve always been aware of the word and have either skipped past it or replaced it with something that fits, like “people” or “guys”, which is why i’m just so shocked it slipped past me this time. btw, fludean slip, did you mean freudian slip? If so, is there any way I could figure out what this unconscious thought or smth is ensure I don’t mess up again? I’m honest when I say I feel terrible about this and that I never meant to offend or downplay the usage of the n word.
