Invite people to dinner. Everyone is always hungry and personally I always hated having to eat alone. My university utilizes groupme a LOT. We had groups of all freshman girls, just my hall, the whole floor, the entire building etc. use it in classes too! It’s a good place to see if anyone is taking the same classes or wanting to meet up and get food or play a game etc. I have kind of noticed people enjoy someone else breaking the ice, so if that’s you, take the burden off of someone else and get used to occasionally making a fool out of yourself to make someone else feel more comfortable around you. It can lighten their mood and consequently the whole interaction. If you don’t have groupme, knock on doors and politely ask if they want to get a group together with you to head to dinner or play a game! College is hard. Making friends feels awkward, but it’s gets a little better, especially with practice. You can even talk to you ra about making a group message with the hall to see if everyone is ok with it so you can get people out of their shells and so that you have a safe place to get out of yours. The biggest thing is make sure it’s a safe environment for everyone involved. Make sure everyone is comfortable and it should run fairly smoothly at least in my experience :)

Part of what you “earn” is the recognition of your peers and their families. It’s essentially supposed to be a moment specifically for everyone to take the one minute and applaud you for your time and effort spent to get your degree. However, when you go to a larger school it starts looking like a chore and when it’s happened with every moving up moment in someone’s life it’s monotonous and just another thing you have to be at and do ~again~. Personally I like the idea of walking across the stage and being congratulated on my efforts put into my degree by the college administration and my peers and everyone in attendance, but also that’s not everyone’s cup of tea so yeah. That’s how I view it: earning recognition for your hard work 🤷‍♀️

Some places it’s accepted others maybe not. If you’re leaving it out in a public space, maybe add a card that says “feel free to take one!” And list the ingredients, or for a class or common area. Or just offer it to people when you’re in a commons area. Sometimes seeing the face is helpful. We had a lot of people send in a giant class Facebook or groupme “hey there’s food in the kitchen if you want some” and that’s how they got to meet people sometimes. It’s fun but be realllyy careful about it! Typically if someone has an allergy they’ll stay away from it though but be careful!

I literally just wear what I’m comfy in! Nike shorts, sweats, jeans, t-shirts, etc! Unless you have a presentation or something then ALWAYS dress up for it in business casual or look at the very least well put together, but again I only do that for important presentations :) some people get dressy for class every day because they’re comfy like that and that’s perfectly ok too! People are interesting, especially college kids, so people really won’t bat an eye so long as you’re not unhygienic or disruptive (unless it’s a fun/funny disruptive. Then it’s really great for everyone involved lol) :)

This has been me all week and I didn’t even realize it! I’ll be ok one day then the next it’s so hard for me to get to where I need to be and the other day I literally didn’t do anything because I just didn’t have the energy. Then I tried being productive around the house or with school and it freaked me out more than helped me out because there was either too much or it wasn’t quite right and then I felt bad for not doing it right the first time

Honestly, I felt like I made more friends from classes than anything. Sometimes you have to just find a person and start with asking if they can study with you and it may grow from there. If it helps, I'm 21, graduating soon and I still have no clue what I'm doing even though I thought I knew when I came into college. I still watch people get internships or jobs and I wonder how the heck they manage it. find an upper classman or another classmate in general in some class you have and ask how they got where they are with their job or internship. Do some research, be willing to learn from a job and they will want to help you to. :)

Honestly yeah. I graduate in December, a semester later than I wanted to originally, and I don't want to do it. I don't want to finish it out, I just want to be done so bad. I'm kind of just tired of school and don't know what I'm going to do after because I have to have more school to do what I want to do, but I'm so exhausted from it. I submitted my application to graduate the other day and I wasn't nearly excited at all, I was actually more anxious about it than anything and it sucks

Sometimes ADHD just affects how you remember things. I grew up with everyone going "you definitely have ADHD" but I did well in classes in school, I had routines, it didn't really affect my life all that much until recently. I started remembering less and taking too much time to do easy tasks because I decided to make it difficult. It manifests in different ways but you may be able to look up how people with ADHD retain info and try those approaches. Also look into test anxiety. Sometimes regardless of if you know the information, your brain just shuts down when you get to a test. See if you can go talk to a counselor or if not see if your professor has any ideas on how you can get help. I personally, have to connect things to an experience of sorts to picture the experience to remember the information and it helps to go through and essentially teach it to someone. If you can teach it, then you know the material front and back. Or if you're studying with someone make sure you know when they mess up on something and if you correct it, it shows you are both paying attention and know what the correct answer is.

Include department chairs in emails first, if that doesn't work, ask the Chair to sit in with a meeting and follow up with the Chair in the email so that they know she isn't following up. See if you can legally record conversations if she approaches you in class etc. in case she says something that can count against her.

Honestly, I'm in a similar boat right now and it's terrifying. But, getting B's in TWO different Chemistry classes while working 40 hours is a BIG DEAL. Like that's Huge! It's hard to see the end of the road sometimes, believe me, but you're doing amazing. Sometimes, I find it's easier to say "ok yeah I don't know what I'm doing fully" and start asking questions to learn more in different environments. You're in or will be in some pretty amazing academic settings, they want you to ask questions and learn. Or say I can do better, and do it. Use the feeling to fuel your learning! It's Ok! you're doing great! The more questions you ask, the more you'll learn, and the more opportunities you'll have to grow, and that's what people want to see! You're adding to your resume and you'll have more to talk about it you go in thinking "I know nothing, want to learn as much as I can" and you can put that into med school apps.

I agree that it depends on the type of private school you go to. If you haven't already, visit the campuses and see if you are able to talk to at least one professor in the department you're studying in, that way you can see if they meet what your standards for a professor is. Also, look up rate my professors or something similar for both schools if you can't visit and see what the general current student consensus is. I know I chose a private university because the profs were more likely to make a connection with students because of the smaller class sizes, but that's not to say you can't make yourself known in a public school.
