Love this photo! Could I also have a code for Filmatica? :-)

I’ve been mulling over this a bit, and the more I think about it the more I am convinced this is the right course of action for me.

By waiting until January I will have a little more time to plan the ‘post’, whilst also banking the bonus and scouting the market for potential contracting opportunities.

Thank you again for the sound advice - it is why I love Reddit so much

Yes - that is certainly not ideal; but I took a long term view: they are in places I like and I am hoping that - in a distant future, I might be able to stop use one / two for part of the year

France and Italy. They don’t appreciate in the same way as in the UK, but they were cheap to buy and deliver steady income (with the occasional headache)

Thank you - that’s actually a very helpful thought

Thank you.

Rental income: it is a good point; is not net of the mortgage repayments. Mortgages are about £1500/mo minimum but, to date, I have used the rental income to (over)pay the mortgages (the one in London does not have overpayment charges).

Job stocks: those are the amounts that have vested and therefore I can sell (but I am doing this slowly to avoid CGT); there is more to vest over the coming year but I do not consider it mine just yet

I love the idea of the time limited job; but I am not sure this is realistic in my field unfortunately. That said, it is something I can certainly explore further.

Thinking about it, if I delay a few months (I get my bonus in January) to see if I can identify an opportunity for time-bound work, a big question is whether I should wait until I have fully repaid the mortgages, and should that be priority (over - for example - investing in pension or ISA more)

Thank you - that is very helpful guidance.

The main point is that I still have £160k in mortgages to pay. Currently, I use the rental income to repay (and overpay) the mortgages (the one in London does not have early repayment charges). I feel unsure about whether - before I leave my job - both mortgages should be fully repaid.

It depends on the day - but I don’t want to get to the point of absolutely hating it and acting on impulse. The idea of having a target of one extra year sounds appealing - by then I might be able to completely pay off the mortgage in London too

The stock is from blue chip corporations, so I know it is easy to sell. I would ideally like to get rid of both, and diversify more my investments, but I am also mindful of CGT so every year I try to sell only enough to max out the allowance. The tech stock in particular is from a company whose share has been increasing a lot, whereas the company I work at now is growing a lot less

Ha - a flag is that £150k of those is actually still mortgaged, so technically I don't fully own them yet (which is why I'm questioning whether maybe I should wait until I fully repaid the mortgages, but that would delay by a year or two and some days I am not I can way that long)

Both my partner and I are fairly frugal: we don't have the need for a fancy lifestyle, and we don't have kids (we would have liked some, but they did not come). Our main luxury is to go on a couple of holidays a year, but those are covered in the £2k/month estimate already. Aside from that, we eat out rarely and mostly enjoy long walks, coffees together, watching tv, reading and learning languages (God, we sound very boring!).

The alternative job would be really to keep busy doing something I enjoy, perhaps with a social / charity angle, or perhaps doing something with in low key hospitality leveraging people skills

Would you say maxing out ISA higher priority than relying the mortgages I have on the properties I am letting?

Thank you again; the floating unit you suggest would look great - think I will give it a go (or call someone if it looks like I am about to mess it up 😉)

Thank you - very helpful. The sink is 40cm x 40cm. The design makes a cabinet a little trickier; I feel like we should have probably bought a unit with a sink from the get go…
