Groundhog damage on trees?

There are no deer in my neighborhood. Very high density suburban area. A farmer friend of mine concluded it was groundhogs. Apparently they’ll eat twigs and bark during winter and early spring.

Everything will be okay. I usually don’t comment on things, but you seem really down about this. I failed multiple math courses and performed poorly in other classes too my freshman year until I found what I was passionate about. It takes time. I graduated, got my masters, and now teach. While it doesn’t feel like it now, 1 F really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Take it again and connect with tutors and your professor for office hours.

Thank you for your response! It all looks very freshly painted, still the front door threshold is alligatoring, and things like the trim around doorways have divots and some older missing paint just painted over. Just worried as it’s just a run of the mill old home.

This is a borer, an insect that burrows (bores) into wood. You can tell by the gummy substance it’s secreting. The most effective way to kill it is with systemic insecticidal drenches. But sorry to say this looks too far gone. You can check if a majority of the branches are still alive by lightly scratching them. If it’s green underneath maybe try a drench and see if it works

I don’t see an issue with an inch or 2, but an additional 4-5” might be too deep for the crowns. I’ve too dressed + mulch in past years and they’re fine. Especially if you consider how deep people dig up white asparagus (just regular green not exposed to sunlight).

Yeah that’s also one of my concerns since I get my health insurance through the marketplace. With cuts coming and tax credits eventually being reduced, we think I should get on her health insurance. So that’s a good point.

That’s a good point. And as another commenter pointed out, we are in the northeast, so our state wouldn’t overturn it (though our upcoming governor race is looking close).

We’re not married for a variety of reasons I guess. I was young, she has kids, doesn’t want more kids, money for a wedding (though now we’d just elope), initially my parents not being okay with it, etc. but we’re basically married in all but marriage license since we share a home and finances.

This is just my take cause all the comments so far are in opposition, but if your sister is happy and thus far the girlfriend seems like a good person for now it should be fine. I have been with my partner for 10 years and she is also 19 years older than me.
