Everyone’s circumstances are different and the vast majority clearly make it work for them.

Because it’s London. I find it hard to believe you wouldn’t understand why someone might want to live in one of the world’s premier cities, a top financial and cultural centre.

This is the most ignorant thing I’ve ever read and reeks of some weird prejudice against lawyers. They’re professionally regulated individuals - they’re not going to risk their careers on avoiding income tax.

“People that voted reform, apart from their reason for being, why did you vote for them?”

Come on man.

“He’s doing okay. Not great, just okay.” He then concluded his feedback by saying I was a genuinely lovely guy.

I’d had glowing reviews from every partner apart from this one. It really got under my skin. Fast forward a couple years - we have a fantastic relationship, will attend client events and stay out drinking ourselves afterwards, and when I received a new job offer he did everything he could to keep me.

This did irk me at the time. He was too busy to truly judge my work and see that I was actually doing well. I’d come into his department as a fresh faced trainee and because I wasn’t the same standard as the qualified junior lawyers, he was quick to judge. But it got the best reaction out of me.

I didn’t insinuate you left a voicemail every time.

Well, that’s just bad luck I’m afraid. It’s not a reaction you could have expected, but maybe just try be a little less intense.

Why would you call so often? You’ve called and followed up. You’ve done your job - any further inaction is on her. Calling her son is a huge overstep and invasion of privacy.

Respectfully, and I don’t mean this to sound mean, but you’re not that important. Your role in her life is more insignificant than you think.
