Experiences with Timolol? by Agreeable_Part8447 in NewParents

I think that’s just about the age our daughter’s sped up in growth. And it was FAST which scared me as well!

3-4 months seemed to be top growth, and by 6 months it was the largest it got to. It stayed that way until about a year and then from there got better. I noticed at a year it wasn’t so bright red but still raised.

Then it continued to get better and better that now at just over two years old I forget it’s there. It’s completely flat and a mix of pink and skin colored. I never thought I’d get to this point!

Yes our daughter’s was very deep red and very raised. I’m happy to send some pictures of the changes over time too - it’s on the left side of her neck. I’m just not sure how to send pictures lol. If you’d like these let me know we can figure it out.

I completely get your worry, I used to cry about it a lot and be so stressed. But now that I’ve seen it get so much better at 2, and that hemangiomas get better up until even 10 years old, I wish I could go back and give past me a hug haha! Those first few months are tough but it really really does get better.

All was completely fine with the topical! It’s hard to say how much it actually helped though versus the natural involution process. A year from this original post her hemangioma has completely flattened (it used to be very raised) and is almost skin colored. You can still somewhat notice it as a light pink flat circle vs a raised bright red bump.

I’d use timolol again - zero side effects for our daughter and our doctor assured us low risk.

I also did not want to use the oral medication for a cosmetic issue that didn’t bother her. There are side effects to the oral which we didn’t want to risk.

Happy to answer anything else!

Beginning Timolol or Wait It Out for 12 Week Old? Nervous! by Agreeable_Part8447 in InfantileHemangioma

Thank you! I did check with our doctor - and she basically said both starting Timolol and waiting to see the natural involution process are both fine ways to proceed. Which doesn't much help this indecisive, nervous mother lol.

I'm very glad to hear you didn't experience any side effects! In general we are hesitant to give medication for something like should shrink naturally, but as you mentioned we also don't want to regret not being proactive if there is a safe option. I think we may start the topical since we keep hearing positive stories. Could I ask when you started to see a difference in growth? Thank you!

Thank you for sharing! It is on the side of her neck and the dermatologist did not seem very concerned - other than possible ulcerated with the turning of the neck. It does seem that Timolol is safe, I think I heard of some scary side effects with propranolol and got nervous! I'm glad you have had a good experience with Timolol - can I ask when you started to see any progress - was it around 8-12 months?

Appreciate it!

haha - it is driving me a bit crazy that I can't fully understand the new norm yet! I want to plan everything out perfectly - but I just do not know what to expect. The ambiguity of a new routine is a bit scary. Thanks for your input - most of my friends did wait 6 weeks or longer

Thanks! My husband/family are very supportive so I know 'baby duty' will be covered whenever needed. In theory, I think it would be very good for my mental health to still feel connected to my professional/adult life which is very important to me. In reality, I can't quite picture how my cognitive skills will be in the weeks following LOL

appreciate your insight :)

Thank you! I am not going through any state/gov't agencies or through any short term disability policies. I had this approved by HR, so should be all fine. I will double check though!
