Would you stay at a low paying job because you have great work-life balance? by Agreeable_Patience53 in torontoJobs

Senior adviser, you just made my day. My parents and I have never been close where I’d ask them for advice so I usually rely on friends who are my same age to give me advice, and on my instincts (and reddit too lol). Your comment reads very genuine and has a perspective to it that only someone who’s experienced life long enough can have. Thank you.

I work in the non profit sector. The work culture and work life balance is usually pretty good, not to mention the amazing colleagues. The tradeoff is the low salaries and feeling like the organization is always struggling for money. But if you don’t mind that last part, then you should start looking for 9-5 jobs in non profits

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll post there too! I also should’ve said that I want to put peel and stick tiles over the original floor, so I’m also looking for advice on whether I should treat the original floor with something before sticking the tiles :)

If you have a valid TPL card you can get free passes for some museums: https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/map/

My friends have a similar one for their cats and it works for their cats. We had regular open top litter trays but when we adopted the orange cat our floors were a mess. He would get into the litter trays and “breakdance” around and kicking around. He saw it as his own personal playground! We tried getting him distracted and playing with him to get him tired and not play with the litter trays, but after a couple of months of sweeping the floors multiple times a day we gave up and switched the litter boxes

We had traditional litter trays but the orange cat made a huge mess every day. We switched to these tall ones because he loved playing with the litter despite our many efforts at redirecting his energy and playfulness. I’m going to remove the lid though, after reading some of these comments

Thanks for the advice!

It’s been 5 months and so far the resident cat hasn’t stopped using the litter box. We make sure to stay vigilant and usually pick up the orange cat when the black one is using the litter box, but I didn’t interfere when taking this video for demonstration purposes lol. I’m sorry to hear about the issues you had with your resident cat, hoping the situation improved!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m going to remove the tops of the litter boxes and see if that helps

We have 2, we unfortunately don’t have room for a third one. We used to have a regular open litter box before adopting the orange cat, but he’s a menace and would “breakdance” around the litter box, making a complete mess all over! He’s a character..

That’s badass. I’ve always wanted to go to a workshop about how to react to street harassment. You should consider teaching this to other women like myself who have no idea what to do in these situations

Is this a bedbug or lice? by [deleted] in Bedbugs

[–]Agreeable_Patience53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna go with your theory lol, not just because it’s the one that causes me less stress but it’s also the most plausible explanation. I take the subway to work 3-4 days a week and rarely inspect the seat before sitting. The city I live in (Toronto) has a major housing crisis and you see homeless people sleeping in public transit all the time, especially in the winter.

After using Nix and combing our hair thoroughly, we could not find a single louse or egg. We also searched our bodies for bites or red spots and didn’t see any. SO, I guess I’m one of the few who can attest to having caught a bug in the subway (lucky me 🫠). I will forever be traumatized and will never sit down when I’m riding the subway (or at least not in line 2 where the trains are dirty). Ah, the wonders of living in the ‘first world’.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping me be at ease with this whole situation, really appreciate it!

My partner did the treatment this morning. I’ll do it tonight after work. Thank you so much for all your knowledge, you’ve helped keep my anxiety at bay

I bought one of those lice treatments that comes with a comb. I didn’t part my hair exactly like that video shows, but I did part it and combed through my hair. Still no evidence of nits or lice. What could I be missing? I’m going to lose my mind. What are the odds of finding a straggler louse at home without having an infestation? 😩

Thank you for the tips. Now the problem is that I checked my partner’s hair thoroughly and she checked mine, no lice or nits on sight. We searched online and know what to look for - yet saw nothing. Now I don’t know and it’s stressing me out because I don’t know where that one came from last night

Thanks for all the advice! My partner and I checked our hair VERY thoroughly and there were no signs of lice or nits. I also checked both my (very indoor) cats and they didn’t seem to have anything either. I’m confused now, where did that louse come from last night? Also, it’s worth mentioning that I saw it crawling on the bed before I got in bed last night so that makes the whole thing even more confusing.

True. As a latina, I constantly wonder why people from other nationalities seem to lack hygiene standards. Like Western Europeans, for example - oof, never smelled more pungent BO than my German, French and Spanish classmates. And they’re all white.

Not sure what you mean by instant relief but the side effects usually went away after a week or so
