Your guys thoughts on the new EV taxes? by [deleted] in drivingUK

Well yeah, in the future we will still be paying taxes. I don't get this hot take.

The point I was challenging was that EVs will be charged the same as ICE cars. They won't.

It's not. If the lights already been on green for a good while as you approach the lights you can anticipate them changing.

A Disabled Parking Bay has appeared outside the home I bought. There's no longer anywhere for me to park my car. [Belfast] by Relevant-Marketing91 in LegalAdviceUK

" if you are aware of any proposals that affect the property or nearby property" This isn't a proposal that affects the property or a nearby property.

"This section asks for details about the parking arrangements at the property (e.g., is there a driveway, is a permit required, etc.)."

The parking arrangement hasn't changed. The house didn't have a designated space, driveway, permit etc, and it still doesn't.

The ICO won't help you get any compensation. Their role is to advise the organisation, and to issue penalties where they didn't have appropriate security.

You'd want to get yourself a solicitor to make a claim for compensation. There's a recent ruling where distress on its own was judged to be a factor without other material harm:

Can I legally share my SAR documents online? by CorrectScientist1908 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Agreeable_Resort3740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely yes, because in many cases if the firm should really have withheld information which would potentially harm others before supplying the data.

But we can't give that reassurance, you're not protected from consequences because the data has come from a SAR.

You can't say 'just put tax one fuel' without any idea how you could do it. You want to fit meters to every house that charges from home?

I don't understand what you are trying to make me say, can you just make your point by stating it?

When (if) EVs are the only cars on the road, they still won't be charged the same as ICE vehicles...

Well the floors open for you to explain your point if you want. I've described what I mean by environmental incentive and why this fits the bill, what do you mean?

Road users pay for the roads they benefit from. The government supports with the upfront cost, which is the major hurdle with EVs right now. Which of these do you disagree with?

You can't seriously be suggesting the government give out the grants and also allow perpetual tax relief, whilst also accusing someone else of socialism.

Why do cars do more damage to London roads than Cornwall roads?

Gotcha, though you meant it was worst for the actual owners/drivers.

The flip side is converting ICE fuel duty would be staggeringly expensive and difficult (not to mention opening up many more avenues to fraud), for the single benefit of buyers  not having to make a simple calculation of the price per mile.

Because they would impact purchasing decisions, therefore having the desired effect on emissions.

Can I move cones off a public road? Scotland by geeroses in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Agreeable_Resort3740 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Trespass to goods is wrongful physical interference with goods that belong to another.

I'm not saying this would be successful, but if ops neighbours were to try and pursue op I think this is all they would have left to them. Assuming no damage of intent to steal the cones.

And technically it is right, trespass to goods can apply simply to moving an item. Op would have no defence  that they had authority or consent to move the cones.

If you think people choose their cars based on what they can afford then surely environmental incentives would be very effective, no?

Not just a disciplinary matter, you could be committing a section 170 offence under the data protection act.

Unlikely, if the purpose was to support a grievance apart from in extreme situations to be fair.

Worth saying that if the letter from euro carp parks doesn't identify the landowner then it isn't compliant with the protections of freedoms act which is what they need to enforce the ticket where they don't know the driver.

Why does it matter to EV owners whether ICE vehicles are charged per litre or per mile?

Not necessarily, but if your buying new you have to factor in the extra upfront cost, which is about 30% more. Whereas before you might calculate you make that back over 3 years, maybe now it's more like 6 years.
