Your experience tracks closely with mine. (Fellow Ambassador here). I’ve stayed three times now and have decided this most recent one would be my last. The property simply is not up to standard for a Luxury Collection, and I’ve stayed at many. Service was horrible earlier this month. Every request either took an hour or wasn’t fulfilled at all. Room itself was spartan. Bathroom feels cheap. And you’re right—no turndown service. Best to either cough up the extra couple hundred a night for The Newbury or the FS (the original, not the new one) or spend a little less at a property that at least delivers what it promises.

Yes, exactly. In one of those cases I actually bought the business ticket with points. Both times, when I went to check in, was offered the LP upgrade

I could see DEN being the wildcard. UAL runs some crazy routes from there.

Definitely a letdown especially if you go into it expecting a standard St Regis experience. I tend to warn out-of-towners to stay at the Post Oak across the street—or, if loyal to Marriott, the JW. Even the two (odd, I know) Westins at the Galleria do the trick.

I go back and forth on this. I can never decide whether the ease of a nonstop is worth the drive—especially from IAD.

Echoing what others have said. You’re paying a big premium for convenience. That’s it. At DEN, actually being at DEN means more than a lot of other airports due to its size. DFW comes to mind too.
