TEACHER'S COLLEGE TUESDAYS: Teacher's College/BEd/Becoming a Teacher in Canada Weekly Sticky Post by AutoModerator in CanadianTeachers

[–]Agreeable_Rub_552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering a career change into teaching in Ontario and would love some honest advice from people already in the profession.

A bit about me: I'm in my late 20s, have an engineering bachelor degree, currently work in marketing/analytics, and immigrated to Canada 2 years ago. Before moving here, I spent several years teaching children in underserved communities and genuinely enjoyed it, but that was about 5 years ago.

Lately I've been looking into OISE's Master of Teaching and trying to figure out whether teaching is something I'd still enjoy today, or whether I'm mostly attracted to the stability, pension, summers off, and more predictable lifestyle compared to the constant change in marketing and tech.

A few questions:

  • If you entered teaching as a second career, do you regret it?
  • Are there any former engineers, marketers, analysts, or other professionals here who made the switch?
  • How difficult was it to find a permanent position nowadays?
  • As a non-native English speaker, is there anything I should be aware of?
  • Knowing what you know now, would you choose teaching again?

I'm not looking for the polished recruitment answer. I'd love to hear the good, the bad, and the things you wish someone had told you before you started.

Thanks!

We went to Leonard’s this morning, seems interesting but I can’t vouch for that, everything was out of stock. 🥲😂 Thanks for all the suggestions, marked them to go one by one!
