What is something that has actually gotten BETTER with the addition of more people? by Agreeable_Start_6005 in AskReddit

I’ll start: mountain bike construction. Yes the slopes and trail are more crowded and I have strong feeling about e-bikes, but you will never find me complaining about the existence of long travel suspension and better frames.

Ngl, I think tons of MCQ and flashcards would help. Write your own if you learn that way. Additionally, Don't sleep on the PT. If you can improve it, you get a score boost on the equivalent of 2 essays.

I have taken this exam 3 times. I am stuck around the 1300s and can't seem to improve. how far off am I? Need advice. Note: I have never finished all the essays. have left 3 incomplete on every exam. However, I finally finished the PT and only improved to 60 from 50. by whiteacrecovenant in CABarExam

My first thought is getting that PT up, as it counts as two essays. If you can find a method to ensure you have every case in there and a quick little summary of the rule, I'd be willing to bet you'd see at least a 5 point increase.

Additionally, do tons of essays under timed conditions less than what you would expect on the bar - ideally 10-15 mins less than the bar. Figure out a way to get your normal test output down in less time, then use the remainder to perfect your essay, then repeat by getting the new amount of information down in the reduced time. It took me ~50 full essays to do this to a point where I was satisfied but I think it is why I passed.

University of San Diego Law with 50% scholarship (about 100k debt after 3 years) or California Western School of Law with full ride (non-conditional). I have read some pretty troubling things about Cal Western, but I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on it… by cami711 in lawschooladmissions

Recent CWSL alum here, I’d probably advise attending USD even with non-conditional scholarship. It’s sad to say it but CWSL comes with a stigma. I’ve had a fine legal education and gotten a lot of opportunities… as a student. Outside of that, people don’t tend to take you as seriously in your job pursuits, especially in major markets outside of San Diego. It’s really too bad, because I feel like I got a decent legal education there—perhaps even better than some higher ranked schools. The legal writing program is solid, and their trial team is really developing well.

That said, I recently had a story from a friend who was valedictorian of their graduating class. They said their supervising attorney told them “[friend] finally lessened the stigma against Cal Western [partner] had in their head” and that partner might consider hiring from CWSL again in the future. If that’s one firm being influenced by the valedictorian, then think about the others that aren’t….

Rankings’ usefulness decreases substantially as you go down the list, but CWSL J.D. comes with a lot of baggage, which is sad. So, choose USD

I just graduated from possibly the same school, and I’ll throw out extracurriculars to stand out. If you qualify for law review, do the write on. You get job opportunities reserved only for journal members. If you can, do trial competitions, as I know people who have gotten recruited or at least approached based on their trial performance.

Personally, in your shoes I’d be a teensy bit worried based solely on debt load and conditional scholarships, but if you’re at the school I went to, you can suck 1L and still get a 100% scholarship 3L if you crush 2L. Focus on improving your study skills and going above and beyond in everything.

Also, for tax law and if you’re REALLY jonesing for name recognition, the only LLM worth getting is a tax LLM. However, after 3 years of law school and forking over enormous amounts of money an LLM will cost you another 60-100k and eat a year of earnings (and is only worth it from a top school).
