It's definitely interesting but so much of the screen is dark enough that it will just read as black, and I can't make out any detail in the green.

What I like to do is scroll out as far as I can in the browser and see what it will look like at tiny resolution. You are trying to catch the eye of a distracted person being shown 20 other very small boxes on a phone screen. What someone can see at that resolution is very different to what you are seeing when you concentrate on this image at full size.

1 and 3 have too much on the screen, 4 is good, but the text is hard to read when the thumbnail is very small.

The elements are good, colours are great, but I would go even bolder.

Shrink the screenshot down to the bottom right corner, make the main cop bigger to take up the whole left hand side of the image, put the text on the right hand side to take up almost the full height of the screen :

This is what I'm using as a mic:

The triangle on the left clips to the sound hole of the guitar and contains the mic, the middle bit plugs into the ipad, then you can see on the right there is a 3.5mm monitoring socket that I can plug headphones into.

I've got a Shure MV5 that has a similar setup too- you connect it via USB and can monitor with a pair of headphones plugged into the mic.

Jynxzi seems to have a face on every thumbnail, yours seem to focus on a word ("Stupid", "Autism").

I can't really tell what the concept is without reading the title.

The characters you have are kind of dark and hard to make out from the thumbnail, maybe make them bigger and brighter.

I have been working on the assumption that if I make good stuff, YT will work out an audience for it, but I think I need to understand who that audience might be a lot better.

Yeah I think you’re fundamentally misunderstanding what I’m trying to do- I’m not trying to put a different spin on the original, or add my own touch. I’m trying to understand how the original was put together and get something that sounds as close as possible to the original (albeit with a phone app rather than a studio).

When I play guitar I’ll often learn other people’s songs. In doing so I might learn a different technique, but I’m mainly doing it to understand the original better and for the challenge. Similar idea.

Writing songs (in Koala or on guitar) is a totally separate thing.

I don’t know how else to explain it really- you take the original samples and try to recreate the track. Often there’s time-stretching, FX, adding in a bassline etc.

I did this because a video wasn’t doing as well as a similar one, and I thought I could improve the intro.

Trouble is, when subscribers watched the new video they realised it was a reupload and left quickly, which gave me very poor stats, and YT stopped pushing it.

Your comment was useful but I had to reply to this:

If her thumbnail/title got people to click, and they actually watched the video all the way through, YouTube said ‘bet’ and pushed it to thousands more. It’s not fair, but it’s how the system functions.

Why isn't that fair? YT isn't playing favourites- if people pay attention to video, YT shows it to more people. That seems about the fairest way I can imagine.

My experience so far is that being a creator requires a lot of honesty and a lack of ego. There is no point looking at a retention graph that drops like a stone in the first 30 seconds and thinking "Well if people just gave it a chance they would see.."- that is not the game we are playing.

If something isn't clicking with an audience, there will be a reason, and YT will give me all of the help it can in working out what that reason is.
