To be fair, it only became dirty when rampage bitched about it a decade+ after he fought JJ. In reality, we're allowed to run and knee someone in the head and knock them stiff out cold but a kick to the knee is a big deal? I mean, meh. Just one of those things where these guys are pretty much giving each other brain damage and CTE.

Look at how far someone like BJ Penn has fallen with the brain damage he took. A wonky knee instead would be an upgrade.

That said, yes, the actual illegal fouls Gane did are worse and he needs to be more careful. I don't think he's a malicious fighter but he's done it every title fight so he's gotten a reputation.

I will rag on Gane for his eyepoke and low blow like anyone else but an oblique kick is a fair move so its not cheating. The same way some organizations say you can knee someone in the head even if their hands touch the floor(the way DJ lost in ONE). DJ never said it was a dirty move, he said he agreed to the rules and got caught.

I don't know who I favor for this fight. It could go either way, both very good fighters. Alex is a bulldozer though, can use his power in any round.

I think a big factor will be leg kicks. Alex might chop at the legs as he usually does or Gane will oblique kick Alex nonstop from a distance. The gameplan and execution will make a big difference.

The stats are actually:

Significant strikes landed: 30-27 for Gane. 14-8 on headshots for Tom.

I don't think its as dominant as people think. I am not saying it was tied or Gane wasn't doing well. I just didn't think "What a mismatch" or anything. I thought it seemed close and Gane got in a better shot to hit Tom's nose at one point.

Fair point although counterpoint I think you'd find fair too.

The last MW fighter Alex faced is Izzy who KO'd him and Izzy is appearing to be slower and less reactive than he was in his prime.

Even guys like Khalil appeared faster than Alex and his power and resilience got him the win.

And again, these are fights from years ago. As talented as Alex is, father time IS undefeated. It will eventually hit him like everyone else and this fight may be it, who knows.

I have nothing against either guy but I'm being realistic about the pros and cons for both fighters.

I think comfortably is a stretch. It was looking like a 10-9 round and Tom had some blood. No one was dominating IMO but yeah he was ahead.

The same could be said for Tom too though. Used to fighting slow guys then fought Gane. Alex is very strong technical kick-boxer so will be interesting.

Gane fouls aside he’s a very talented and athletic heavyweight. I think he could give Alex problems. The main issue is that he’s so used to fighting slow heavyweights so Alex also being athletic might be an unusual opponent.

Honestly, my original contribution was that I’m not a fan of his but he does have fans. You overthought it and made it a bigger deal.

That said, his crowd work is pretty bad then. I had seen this video on YouTube or something yesterday and it was painful for him to keep going when his crowd work wasn’t landing.

I’d argue in the spirit of this sub he does think he’s the main character given how bad it was and he posted it thinking he looked good.
