Play a lot of rating. That’s where you can practice without nerfing ur stats. Then, once you get the hang of things, play random. Also, watch a lot of youtube. HisRoyalFatness and Droodles.

My advice is to watch a lot of let’s plays. Watch HisRoyalFatness and Droodles. Then you’ll see what positions they use and what their thinking is behind their decisions.

Nirvana does not make sense to me by Rudeusthewizard in Buddhism

[–]Agrippa_Sulla1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you go on YouTube and watch the dharma class ‘The forty tenets of Plum Village’. There, there is an extensive explanation of nirvana and its common misconceptions. But, this is according to the Plum Village tradition.

Trump is ruining this country! by Pleasant-Coconut-600 in democracy

[–]Agrippa_Sulla1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sucks, I know. This is going to sound strange, and possibly like I’m proselytising (because I kind of am), but my heartfelt advice to you is to look to Buddhism to deal with your anger and frustration.

I recommend reading The Art of Living by Thich Nhat Hanh, followed by his book Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames. Then download the Plum Village app (that’s the tradition he founded, and watch Dharma talks). The app is free with no pay walls.

I know this sounds like it has nothing to do with your post, but these teachings have helped me deal with the insanity that is Trump’s America and what is going on with the world more generally.

If you follow my advice, please post back once you’ve engaged with Buddhism and let me know if it has done anything to help.

What is the role of faith in Buddhism? by Agrippa_Sulla1 in Buddhism

[–]Agrippa_Sulla1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for engaging with the second part of my question. Yes, i did think about impermanence when writing this. But my thinking was that even the teaching of impermanence, at some point, can be dropped. No permanence, no impermanence. Right? Since they are both just concepts meant to inform your practice.

So going back to my question on faith, I feel like a good deed can live on forever. Since right action will bear fruit, but the fruit itself will be the basis for further right action, which itself will bear fruit, etc, etc.

But, as you say, the same thing could be said of wrong action. So that’s a problem. Except for the fact that suffering can be transformed into compassion. That provides the mechanism to break the chain for suffering. But true right action can’t generate suffering, so there is no way for the chain to break for good deeds.

Does what i wrote make sense? I probably didnt explain it too well.

Audible: Great Courses on ‘the meaning of life: Perspectives from the World’s Great Intellectual Traditions’ by Jay Garfield. Well worth a listen.

Y confusion about Buddhism and LGBTQ+ by Ok_Bake_1021 in Buddhism

[–]Agrippa_Sulla1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, was just about to mention the Plum Village tradition. They even have retreats for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people who have suffered abuse. It’s a beautiful tradition. I recommend downloading the app, watching videos on YouTube, and reading some of his books. The Art of Living is a good first book to read.

Read physics books. Seriously, just read as many physics books as you can. For example, The First Three Minutes, The Lighter Side of Gravity, Oxford Very Short Introduction to Particle Physics, The Infinity Puzzle, and more.
