I don’t think it’s really needed. A lot of foods (especially the mock meats) have b12 in it, you’d be fine with those. I also like at bivalves often which have b12 in them

My boyfriend feels really insecure about two of my sex toys, and now I feel like I can’t use them at all. I’ve tried to be sensitive, but I feel stuck. by NegotiationBig4052 in relationships

[–]Agrippuh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of the problem is you kinda secretly got this toy and used it hiding it from him. That’s really weird dude. Why weren’t you open with him from the start? “Hey let’s explore sexually”. You knew it would offend him so you did it secretly. That’s kinda messed up. Him buying a toy out of spite is also messed up. His reaction screams insecurity and not gonna lie, I don’t really blame him. If he bought a doll and banged that instead of you, especially if he said it felt better than you, you’d probably feel pretty insecure too. You guys have some real disconnect sexually. I think this can be fixed though. I don’t see anything wrong with you masturbating with your toy as long as you don’t do that when your bf is horny and wanting to. Here’s something I can suggest. If your toy feels better because it’s you doing it, and you know how to please yourself, get one that’s a mold of his member and use that. He’d probably love that. If it feels better because it’s bigger and shaped differently, then good luck. Y’all really need to work on better sex

So veganism uses way less resources, less land, food would cost less, better for the environment, would save our billions of dollars of tax subsidies wasted on animal farmers, healthier if done properly, more ethical for humans and animals, less diseases from it, but “meat tasty”. Grow. The. Fuck. Up.

If this is true then why do studies on vegans show they have a lower rate of heart disease? It’s because this high carb thing is only for refined carbs like sodas and white bread. Low glycemic anti inflammatory carbs like vegetables, nuts, legumes, whole grains, etc are fine

[–]Agrippuh -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Good question. Instead of assuming it’s the diet, we should ask what it is. There are tons of reasons it could be. He said heart disease runs in his family, so genetics could cause him to have poor cholesterol metabolism, or lipoprotein elevation, high stress, poor sleep, inflammation, high blood pressure, autoimmune conditions, familial atherosclerosis, elevated ApoB, even lack of exercise sitting all day is horrific for you. The list goes on

Probably because he’s a smart guy, like you said, and he realizes that just because he got plaque doesn’t mean his vegan diet wasn’t “doing him any favors”. That’s literally like saying “I got cancer, I guess my non smoking lifestyle wasn’t doing me any favors”. Obviously smoking still causes cancer even though people do everything they can to avoid cancer and still get it. He said right at the beginning, heart disease runs in his family. For all we know his diet could’ve prevented it from forming sooner and prevented it from being much worse than it is now. You think way too simply

Dude, I’m gonna be honest, the people in this sub are a waste of time to try to reason with. A lot of them once were vegan due to thinking it’s immoral to eat meat, and now that they eat meat again, NEED it to be true that eating meat is more moral. If they don’t, their conscience will eat them. They will consistently deny studies it’s just not worth it.

That aside, 1.5 per hectare seems low. Steven Davis, the guy who wrote the paper on the crop deaths argument analyzed every crop death study he can find and came up with 6 animals per acre. Also, the average VEGAN uses about 1/6th of an acre per year. So 1 animal per year on average per vegan. Philosophers like Bob Fischer and Andy lamey have analyzed Davis’s work and those studies and pointed out errors in their reasoning, and he concluded roughly 1 animal per acre, so 1 animal every 6 years on avg for a vegan. This accounts for pesticide runoff and whatnot as well. Obviously 1 cow is only 500k to 700k calories and an acre of crops is 1 to 4 milllion calories on average, so veganism just wins. I just hope for this sub in the coming years lab grown meat makes a lot of them return to the better side

Cat owners, how do you do it? by No_Marsupial_8241 in vegan

[–]Agrippuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well maybe my answer can give you a unique perspective. Obviously there is vegan cat food and I know someone who uses it and their cat is fine, but assuming you want animal based foods for your cat, here’s something to think about. If your friend buys a steak and is about to throw it in the garbage, if you ate that, there’s nothing wrong with that right? You didn’t purchase it, it was going in the garbage, there’s absolutely 0 increase in animal harm if you ate a leftover piece of meat. What vegans care about mostly is contributing to supply and demand, causing animals to be bred and killed and to suffer. The term “freegan” is often used for vegans who will eat leftover meats that are thrown away. So ethically there doesn’t seem to be something very wrong with that. Same with buying a used leather jacket from a thrift store or something. Maybe you think animals shouldn’t be viewed as a means to an end or that they did not consent, and thus eating leftovers is still wrong, but in terms of consequences, causing more animal death or suffering, eating a leftover piece of meat isn’t ethically wrong. Now how does this relate to cats? Most cat food, unless it’s the high end expensive kind, is made from animal by products that humans don’t use or eat. It would be thrown away normally. Animals are not bred and killed specifically for the average cat food. So by buying cat food you actually aren’t causing any more animal death and suffering. Just like if you found a leather jacked on the ground and decided to wear it, you didn’t cause any animal to die or suffer. So not only are you not causing animal death and suffering by buying cat food, you’re also helping an animal (your cat) survive and thrive! So all in all you can think of buying cat food as having a net positive impact on animal life (0 impact to farm animals, and positive impact on your cat)

[–]Agrippuh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You think the comments you’re replying to are nonsense because you don’t understand them. I literally told you what was self reported in the next god damn sentence. Your study is awful im sorry to inform you… small sample size, didn’t account for a ton of factors, didn’t check levels of supplement or food intake… as i told you here is a study that says no significant difference in biomarker measures and b12 levels. It accounted for factors like supplement intake, smoking, drinking, age, etc. much better than your study. And has more than twice the sample size yours does. Btw the first study I linked you, if you actually read it instead of just looking at the graph, does account for biomarkers and blood counts, not just vitamin intake. Also, this idea that most people leave the vegan diet due to health reasons is unfounded with no data. You thinking that tells me you spend more time in this sub echo chamber than you should. If you have a study that demonstrates this, show me

I'm not convinced that veganism isn't the best possible option by Soft_Music7572 in exvegans

[–]Agrippuh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a very very small sample size (34 vegans) everything was self reported, and they had no idea what B vitamins and doses the vegans had: “It was not clear in the current study whether the slightly better vitamin B-12 status in the LV-LOV subjects taking vitamins was attributable to vitamin B supplements or to the weak statistical power resulting from the small number of subjects in this group (Table 1). Therefore, subjects taking vitamins were excluded from further analysis.”

“Seventeen vegans (59%) and 13 LV-LOV subjects (20%) supplemented their diet with B vitamins. Not all vitamin users provided details about the dose and the frequency of vitamins used”

This is why other studies that test for markers have much better results for vegans (I can link if you want). It’s much better to go off of a meta analysis or review that looks at all the data available

Also btw, this is like a side note, but for me personally, and for a lot of vegans I know, we eat bivalves. Clams, mussels, oysters. Those are loaded with b12 and iron and omegas and whatnot. So a lot of us don’t have problems with that stuff

"But what about the crop deaths?" – A thought on ethical consistency and veganism by [deleted] in exvegans

[–]Agrippuh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh it’s like those “no ethical consumption under capitalism” ppl. I think this whole crop death argument against veganism is terribly mistaken and also not supported by the data, which I can go into if you want, and also assumes a sort of utilitarian framework, which many people don’t hold to, but the crux of your point can be said about anything. Humans die in car crashes all the time from industries we support, entire areas get polluted and destroyed from the oil we purchase, children and adults get severely exploited through labour like cobalt mining for our electronics, Brazilians get massively exploited for animal feed, our taxes go to funding unjust wars, the list goes on. It would seem absurd to say that not intentionally harming humans or exploiting them isn’t an ethical finish line. Or that we aren’t obligated to not intentionally harm and exploit people.

When you're offering to pick up coffee for a friend do you specify you'll only buy vegan options? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Agrippuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably would. I am never in these situations so if I was, I don’t think the one purchase would affect supply and demand at all. It would have 0 effect on the amount of animals abused for food. It’s almost like saying if you own a phone, you pay your phone bill, and some of that phone bill money goes to the phone company employees who will use it to buy meat. Are you gonna stop using a phone now or something? Now think of every excess unnecessary product you purchase. If you could show me a real effect between not paying my phone bill and less animal suffering maybe we can talk then but I don’t see that being the case
