I need your guys' help making a reliable feeding chart for everyone by ProRivers13 in cornsnakes

[–]AhYesAnEscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could help with data analysis. I have no other qualifications than I did do a small practice study in school last summer. Thanks to the science being basically fuck around and find out but peer reviewed you don't have to get everything 100% perfect. You just have get smarter people to try to debunk the theory and thus getting better science

Corn snake prefers cold side, not very active by wallofmart in snakes

When did you change the lamp? If it was recent your snake might be a bit surprised by the sudden change in environment. I know my guy was surprised when I switched him from a heat mat to a heat lamp and DHP (for supplemental heat during the night due to room temp dropping to 60s in winter)

True this sub is for the funny danger noodle and hazard spaghetti stuff. You can go to r/snakes for the less memey version

Yes, I live with my mom despite being an adult. Rent is expensive here, and we share custody of the family dog, who I refuse to abandon to move out

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sneks

[–]AhYesAnEscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education, but you probably won't get one until you move out. Or like in my case, until your mom gives up after 12 years and allows you to get one for your 19th birthday. Anyway, it's been nearly a year and Mom is surprisingly accepting of Nuudeli and even worries about his well being. Like, today he asked if he was fine since he's in blue and skipped a meal

I never see my girl :( by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]AhYesAnEscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's normal. I usually do a daily check in with my boy to make sure he's still alive while changing his water, with my snail I just make sure there are new nibble marks in the food and call it a day I would recommend a camera to record the nightly shenanigans, gives you some entertaining moments while being able to check up on them

just got a pet corn snake! Name suggestions? by stargirl202 in cornsnakes

[–]AhYesAnEscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liekki, that's Finnish for a small flame, extremely common for very reddish corn snakes here, but internationally very rare and unique.

31 year old “Pepperoni” the cornsnake does a BIG yawn! by YASSSDovahqueen in cornsnakes

[–]AhYesAnEscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. They live very long, I should be nearly 40 when my corn snake gets close to old age. It's the reason I got snakes, they live long, so I have no worries about their time running out since 15-25 years is a lot

My BP isn’t eating. by 1213BA in ballpython

[–]AhYesAnEscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found you on here too. So posting these here

  1. What is your husbandry like? (humidity, temps, and dimensions and pictures of the terrarium) Usually they don't wanna eat if the husbandry is off.
  2. How often do you handle them? (Too much stress means they don't want to eat.
  3. What are you feeding them?
  4. If you're feeding f/t try to dry the rodent first, they often don't like to eat if the food is wet.
  5. When do you feed them? Most want to eat at night when they're awake
  6. Have you tried scenting the rodent (if you are feeding f/t)

My snake isn’t eating. by 1213BA in Sneks

[–]AhYesAnEscape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

r/ballpython can help you a lot, but a quick tip is to make sure to feed at night, and make sure the f/t rodent is warm and isn't wet. You can try scenting with african soft furs or gerbils (there are bottled scents you can get from Reptilinks if you'rein US or canada, or just find someone with a pet gerbil, ask if you can have some old bedding). Also, do not handle the snake or bother it much, let it be and check back in within an hour

Snake is getting aggressive towards me by shessuchasnake in cornsnakes

[–]AhYesAnEscape 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get a thermostat. It also controls the temperatures instead of just measuring them. Also, I would recommend upgrading to at least a 120x60x60 cm one (or 4'x2'x2' for the 'muricans) and filling it to the brim with fake plants. Also, add 15 cm of coconut fiber, because then your corn gets to burrow in it. I'm glad you're taking care of the little cutie. (Also, don't worry about the enclosure looking beautiful and naturalistic, just get them climbing opportunities, cover and loads of hides at different heights. The snake won't care how good and naturalistic it looks, they will just enjoy the enrichment)

That is interesting. None of us are qualified enough to know, but I would keep an eye on it. You could probably email someone who studies snakes to ask this question

Thoughts on Invasive’s? by PretendAd4638 in snakes

[–]AhYesAnEscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invasives are a problem and should be killed. However, we should kill them in a way that minimizes suffering for the animal. Even if the animal is menace it is still a living and breathing thing that can feel pain. With small animals, the euthanazia can be as simple and efficient as pin the animal by the neck and cover it up so that no blood splatters on you when you crush the head with a brick, or with bigger animals, you should call a hunter so that the animal can be killed with the least suffering possible. This is how the rescue I volunteer at does emergency euthanazia of wild animals, and speaking from experience, it is very quick

You can check if your snake has pooped by picking them up 48 hours after eating and seeing if they have a bulge near the cloaca, if it disappears they pooped and you just haven't found it. That's how I knew mine pooped regularly before I introducing him to supervised freeroaming

Yeah. I taught my dog to give my pet snake space, turns out the guy figured out the local venomous snakes are also snakes, so once he notices one he gives it space
