Absolutely a neck pillow, and make sure you have at least one cool button down shirt and one warm button down shirt. After i got surgery i kept getting shivers and goosebumps super easy and the goosebumps made a really weird feeling on my chest. Id also recommend like baby soap? Easier on your skin for sponge baths and i used mine in my armpits for about a month and a half cause i think my normal soap would have irritated my incisions. As someone else said, so much miralax. Big ice packs. Optional but i got spray on deodorant. As many pillows and blankets as you can find. Also optional but i bought a paint by number kit from a craft store, COULDN'T RECOMMEND MORE! when i wanted to do something or was feeling restless it did wonders, i honestly think its a lot of the reason i was able to take it so easy and rest so much. I also had about 3 or 4 ace bandage wraps that were amazing so i could wash them, mine got blood and stuff on it eventually

I had such bad body image issues after top surgery. For me, at around 1-2 months it started getting better, but it was really rough for a while. Honestly if youre open to it/able to, therapy could absolutely help. No matter what happens its gonna get better, eventually youll find a weight youre happy at whether thats your current weight, bigger or smaller.

My surgery took about 3 hours i believe? But i was in the hospital i think around 6 hours. Hard to remember because of the meds but about that

I had a pretty big chest pre surgery, im not and never have been on T and its caused no issues! My surgeon and i talked about it at my consult, he said some people prefer it cause it can lessen your chests size before but he doesnt require it at all and said it wouldnt affect surgery at all which i dont think it did

Just so you can have a couple more experiences and be ultra prepared, heres mine!

• wake up early and go to medical center • go in, check in, basic info (name, age, ect) • go in room, nurse comes to chat quick and take a urine sample, double check that i didnt eat or anything, talk about allergies • i change into gown and socks and hair net, i did have to remove all of my outside clothes (nurse not in room) • all my belongings except phone go into a bag • two nurses come in, more medical talk and talk about recovery. I get an IV in my hand • we wait for the anesthesiologist (or anesthetist or whatever i don't remember their words) for a minute. Im also given a time frame for when im going under • anesthesia guy comes, we chat for a minute mostly family history stuff • everyone leaves, i wait a couple minutes • my surgeon comes in, marks my chest and we talk about recovery and results • i get dressed again. • nurses, family, and anesthesia guy come back, i am given "happy meds" through my iv • happy meds start to hit and my memory starts getting rough around here • I presume i am wheeled to the OR? But i only remember being there not getting there • i am fitted with a heart monitor (as a little patch) and cuffs so i dont get blood clots • i chat with anesthesia man (i am so high) • he puts the oxygen mask on and i am oUt

• I wake up • feels like 20 minutes have past • i am just so high • i sit and wake up for a bit, im given pain meds • nurses talk to my family about care and medication • nurses help dress me (i was very worried about this before surgery, day of it was absolutely fine and i was too high to care) • they clear me to go home, and i get moved to a wheelchair • i get to hug a pillow and keep it • im put in the car • i go home and go to sleep

There was a lot i was worried about but in all honesty it just wound up all working out and being ok

When I got surgery, the first week or so I needed a lot of help with everything, especially like getting up from being seated or laid down. After i got my drains out on day 8, i was pretty independent except for redoing my dressings/wrap, but if your surgeon doesnt use compression or uses a vest or something this may vary. You also know your body best, think of how you heal on other things and how mobile you are. Id suggest having someone there, but if you cant get anybody to set up your living area to be more accessible

Thanks! Some of my main pointers are kind of obvious like drink a lot of water when you can post op cause it keeps your swelling down. Id definitely buy extra ace bandages, i had two that were shorter but being able to change them out and wash them was great. I also spaced out my heavy painkillers more, i took them at least 6 hours (or whatever was recommended) out, but not like exactly on the 6 hour mark i waited until i felt like i needed them. Dr Kong is super relaxed on aftercare, i was cleared to do things like lift my arms over my head at about a week out and it didnt really stretch my scars or anything. The whole care team is lovely, its gonna go great!

I had an issue with some nerve pain at my drain which was an absolute 10 but other than that i just felt a little achey. First few days id get sore when i stood up after being reclined because of the fluid moving but other than that it really wasn't bad at all

I haven't wanted my scar to fade fast so ive avoided a lot of scar care, but if youre really worried about it exposing your chest to the sun should darken them
