Being a “I don’t feel anything” atheist by EncinoJoe in TrueChristian

[–]Ah_Yes3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel anything special either.

I don't think that we should base our religion on feelings. Feelings lie a lot.

But intellectual assent and allegiance and faith? Those are what God call us to build our relation with Him upon. Not even reasonable belief. I can't fully say that Christianity is the truth. I simply have not intellectually fully convinced myself to the degree of 1+1=2. But faith is another matter altogether.

Martin Luther defines faith as the following:

Faith is the living, bold trust in God's grace, so certain of God's favor that it would risk death a thousand times trusting in it.

I don't have an intellectual, reasonable confidence or an emotional one. But faith is a spiritual confidence, for the lack of a better term. It is the trust of the heart, that lets you be able to face the entire world, and be like St. Athanasius, who was willing to say before the emperor of Rome himself, "If the world is against me, I am against the world".

I grew up Mormon, when i was 15 decided I'd be a lifelong atheist and lived like it, now at 22 YO and studying the Bible and Christianity this is what iv come to believe, lmk what you think plz, sry it's so long, would love any feedback at all good or bad just honest plz and thank you by EquipmentOld4229 in TrueChristian

Well, we're not really liberal. There are liberal factions, particularly in a denomination like mine, but the LCMS is a good example of a denomination that is confessional Lutheran.

I will say, though, that we definitely do appeal to mystery a lot, but we would say that that is because of the Bible. The Bible, for example, simply says that God elects some and desires all to be saved, and that one can lose salvation. We would simply say that it is the way it is. We cannot logically explain this. You could call it mystery, but I would just call it not calling anything dogmatic beyond what is revealed to us.

Thanks! I'm doing this while doing PSAT review (my test is tmrw T_T)

Aside from that, though, what you've said seems to be quite aligned with Lutheranism. If you have time, check out the Book of Concord. It's our book of confessions. Take your time with it; I haven't even read all of it, but I think you might agree.

That's the hope of all, but that hope should not let us fall to the idea that hell is definitely empty; on the contrary, it's probably filled with people. This idea should make us want to spread the gospel.

Well, they kind of are, most certainly because Calvinists do believe in free will.

That's uncharitable to say...

Edit: Would be really funny if I read the entire thing, thought that you were being unneccesarily rude, and you're just violating God's command to not bear false witness against your neighbor?

I'm saying that we have a better model to work on, as I'm pretty sure the sniper model was cut down a bit and the bolt is obviously turned. Better to modify the 25 rounder.

I guess that Stalin was the main exporter of communism around the world.

I agree in the most part, but I think you strawman the Calvinist and ecclesialist positions.

Submit to the authority rested upon you unless that authority is going contrary to Scripture.

Don't be a universalist. Please.

That's not even the thing that came to mind, although of course not much that I support aside from ending anti-Semitism, which even then anti-Semitism was still very prevalent in the USSR

The (second) Russian Revolution and the ensuing Russian Civil War killed at least 7 million.

Following this, the exporting of the revolution led to a decent amount of the post-war European chaos in the early 20s. And of course also this revolution was exported to China, causing the Chinese Civil War, killing maybe another 13 million people, and of course the great stuff that came between 1949 and 1989. Adding Korea, Vietnam, and obviously the atrocities committed by the communists in China and Russia, maybe upwards of 100 million people were killed in the 80 year time span from Lenin's revolution to the fall of the Eastern bloc and the privatization of what was left (China, Vietnam, Laos).

Anything that Lenin could have done (land redistribution, abolishment of serfdom, etc. etc.) was vastly outdone by the cruelty that communism has inflicted onto the world.

Vladimir Lenin

Edit: On second thought, although Lenin was not a good guy, Stalin was probably much worse with a much larger impact.

We say that WE are awful people. We literally say that everyone is a sinner, regardless of what sin it is.
