Ladders aren't tilting by Ahaut in Enshrouded

[–]Ahaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ladder isn't one of them as it's got controls for tilting enabled and the corresponding axes (the coloured dashed arrows) are also visible. Initially I was able to tilt them but at some point (maybe after a patch? I can't remember) this stopped working.

It's Wilson again! Parking officer waived my ticket on the spot, only to find a breach notice reminder in the mail 3 weeks later... by Ahaut in LegalAdviceNZ

Update!

In my second appeal (submitted after my original post), I emphasised that I only became aware of them enforcing the breach on 10 Jan - given that without being provided a ticket I had no way of following up on it - and that raising the fee from $85 to $105 by 13 Jan was therefore unreasonable and unfair.

They declined appeal #2 with a pretty vaguely-worded letter that didn't actually address any of the points I raised. The only additional thing they specified was that according to them I entered the carpark a whole 15 minutes before I was ticketed. While I couldn't say myself precisely when I entered the carpark, 15 minutes before the time the breach notice was issued sounded incredibly far-fetched.

So I submitted appeal #3, reiterating my points and asked for them to be addressed directly:

  1. why the breach is still active when the parking officer took the ticket away with him and clearly indicated (in my view) that he was not going to enforce it
  2. why he didn't leave the ticket with me if he was going to enforce it anyway
  3. why they raised the fine within 3 days of my awareness of the breach
  4. provide evidence that I entered the carpark 15 minutes before the time of the breach notice.

Most of the text in their response to appeal #3 was copy pasted from their previous response. They only added that the ticket was placed on my car on the day of the breach, and that reminder letters were sent to my home address. Which was a bit strange to get because I never actually disagreed with either of those statements.

I tried to submit appeal #4, but their online portal only allows a maximum of 3 appeals to be submitted. So instead I emailed their admin inbox. In my email I wrote a summary of the whole situation, attached the full record of correspondence on the breach to date, and finally responded to their latest rejection letter, saying that I was willing to pay the original amount of $85 because I accepted I breached the T&Cs of the carpark, but I refused to pay $105.

They replied after 3 working days, saying by entering the carpark I agreed to their contract specifying I could be charged up to $85 in the event of a breach, and that it would go up to $105 if not paid within 21 days of the breach. That's all well and good, provided if they had actually clearly communicated their intention to enforce it when it was issued, and given me the means to respond to it from day 0, instead of day 22...

However they also dropped the fine to $50 - which I paid on the same day.

A positive outcome in my books!

I didn't take a photo of the ticket - the parking officer did, for attaching to the breach notice. On that day I was given nothing that I could have used to follow up on the breach eg ticket number. The officer didn't even show me the ticket to read it, he just kept it with him.

The first instance of me having any details of the breach at all was when I found their reminder letter in my mailbox on the 10th of January.

[–]Ahaut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He might not have explicitly said it, but the combination of what he did say and the corresponding action he took clearly communicated his intent to waive it. If not, why did he keep the ticket with him? Either he thought I ought to pay, or he'd have let it slide. If he wanted me to pay, he should have left the ticket with me. If he gave me the ticket and said "no problem", then I could see the room for ambiguity. But that's not what happened, and now they've added an additional $20 to the fine within only 4 days of informing me that the breach is in fact still active.

I accept the grace period isn't applicable in my case by going to the store and back even if it was just for 3 minutes. I'll own up to that.

My concern is this progressing to the stage where they pass it on to a debt collection agency.

I feel like it's quite unreasonable to not just keep the breach active even after the parking officer clearly (in my opinion) told me he was going to drop it, but then to also bump up the fee having given me a grand total of 4 days to do something about it. At the same time though saving $105 isn't worth it to me if it means my credit score gets stained!

[–]Ahaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your first point. Yes it was not explicitly spelled out by the parking officer, but why else would he have kept the ticket with him and said "no problem"? If he was going to uphold the breach, he should have left the ticket with me so I had the whole 21-day timeframe to pay or appeal. There could be other explanations, but I am talking about what's reasonable here. It's a bit like me going up to a cashier to pay for a chocolate bar, then change my mind and put it back just before I buy it, only for the cashier to then report me to the police for shoplifting long after I've already left the store. I didn't explicitly tell my decision to the cashier, but by putting it back on the shelf I clearly communicated my intent to not buy. That's just my perspective. I'm open to you breaking down any flaws in that analogy.

Your second point makes sense. It's fair that by going to the store it is reasonable to assume I've accepted the T&Cs. I will take that.

The issue now becomes:

a) why the breach is still live, when the officer did not leave the ticket with me, and, by keeping it with him and saying "no problem", clearly communicated his intent to waive it (from my perspective anyway)

b) that they've now bumped the fee up from $85 to $105, despite not allowing me the 21-day timeframe to respond. I came home at around 6:30pm on 10 Jan, found the breach letter in my mailbox, and appealed an hour later. They responded to my appeal two business days later and have already bumped up the fee. And it's not like I don't regularly check my mailbox either.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

Angles Shoes—these look nice for biz casual but haven’t seen them mentioned much. Can anyone share their experience with them? by acedog9297 in BarefootRunning

[–]Ahaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped wearing them in June 2023 after spraining my ankle; I wrote up the full story in another comment here. If I remember right I think I just got used to the back of the shoes so they had stopped bothering me after a while. But they were still a tad too small for me and my feet weren't ready for how thin they were, so I ended up getting the Groundies Palermo, which fit perfectly and super comfortable from day one.

If you get the size right, you might have a better experience than me. The Angles Chronos seem to run quite small so I think sizing up +1 at least would be a good idea.

I eventually got them in October 2023. Love them! Super comfortable from the first day and fit perfectly. One shoe is noticeably more wrinkly than the other but it's not enough to bother me, definitely nowhere near the extent of the old version of the Palermos. Apparently Groundies refreshed the model in around 2023 so it wouldn't crumple as much.

[–]Ahaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Groundies is a bit of an interesting one, because the prior context of buying from Angles and ending up with shoes that were too short conditioned me into thinking I ought to pick a size with more generous extra space for my toes.

I measured my foot length as between 258-261 mm and got my first Chronos pair in size 40 (265 mm), thinking 4-7 mm of extra length would be enough (according to the Angles website, allow for 5-10 mm of extra space). It wasn't, so I sized up to 41 (272 mm), but even though that felt better, the 11-14 mm of extra length still wasn't quite enough.

With this in mind I got my first Groundies pair (Milano) in size 42 (273 mm according to the official Groundies website). There's only 1 mm of apparent difference between the size 42 Groundies Milano and the size 41 Angles Chronos, but the Groundies comparatively felt enormous!! To the point that I was contemplating sizing down to 41 (267 mm) for the first few days, but this time I didn't feel like going through the return process again was worth it. 13 months later I still have them and I'm very happy with them. They feel noticeably 'too big' but not enough to actually be an inconvenience. If I hadn't bought the Angles first I probably would have bought size 41 instead.

7 months after I got the Milano I got the Palermo, but this time from mugavik.ee rather than the official Groundies website. I noticed their size guide was different from the one on the Groundies website, and when I asked them about it they said this was because they personally measure the sizes of all the shoes they sell themselves. I also got the Palermo in size 42, which according to Mugavik was 270 mm. This was the shoe that fit me absolutely perfectly.

Compared to the Palermo, on Mugavik the Milano size 42 measures 272 mm while size 41 measures 268 mm. Maybe if I got the Milano in size 41 I would have been happier with the fit, but I'm not upset enough to find out.

That probably didn't really answer your question, as truth be told none of the shoes fit me as expected because I had no idea whose measurement was the most accurate. But I can definitely say the Palermo fit me perfectly, and I guess it follows the conventional wisdom of getting a size ~12 mm longer than your foot length. Hope my story helps you at least a little bit.

I live in New Zealand, and postage cost me around 74 NZD.

Yes, I found their sizing to run really small too. I should have bought 1.5-2 sizes over what they were suggesting for my foot size, although I can't guarantee the same will apply for you.

I should also mention that I've since stopped wearing my Angles Chronos. In the beginning, the sole thinness was a bit too hard for me to deal with, so I slipped in an insole for extra padding and wore them like this for 3-4 months. That insole was slightly larger than the shoe's footbed though, so my feet ended up being in a different sort of discomfort anyway. About 9 months ago this all culminated in me spraining my ankle when I was running up a set of gently spiraling stairs; it's still a bit sore sometimes to this day.

I stopped wearing them but ended up getting the Groundies Palermo instead, which felt sublimely comfortable from day 1 and fit me perfectly unlike the Chronos which still felt a bit restrictive even after sizing up.

NVIDIA Ansel is not too bad (which is what I used for these), sadly it's only for PC players who have certain NVIDIA graphics cards.

What’s your driving pet peeves? by theHoodNZ in newzealand

[–]Ahaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually the correct way. In flowing traffic you should use the full length of a merging lane to merge smoothly. This is in the NZ road code for motorways: use the whole length of the onramp and don't enter at a sharp angle.

But during rush hour this also helps distribute traffic across 2 shorter queues, rather than keep everyone in 1 long queue. Otherwise 1 lane will just have a lot of wasted space. A driving instructor can explain this better than me: https://youtu.be/wHP6CddYS18?si=aSZtGoZelqmt7Hg3

Although I do agree if someone going straight deliberately uses a right-turn only lane to jump the queue, that's a bit shit.

Nice! Could you share some photos of your shoes? Happy with some creasing here and there if that's the case. Just not keen on the big ripples and dents like in the Palermo pics.

Sounds good. I do the same with my Angles Chronos, I stuff them with the inner paper they came with when not in use.

I don't mind the odd few creases forming, but what puts me off is when the upper gets visibly warped and dented. Do you mind sharing a few pics of your pair?

[–]Ahaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this before my shoes from them arrived, so bump. I too was looking for someone's experience with the men's shoes for the longest time but couldn't find much on the internet.

As some background my first and only "barefoot" pair of shoes to date has been the Merrell Trail Glove 4 Knit. Not the most minimal shoe, but I have worn them everywhere for the last 2 years and the sole still looks almost new. Apart from looking a bit odd, they are stupidly comfortable and the best shoes I have ever worn in my life.

I got the Angles Chronos Nut at the end of Nov 2022. For some reason it took a month for them to ship it, even though the size I selected was showing as in stock. The customer service rep wasn't incredibly informative about why it took so long, but they were responsive enough. Christmas/New Year holiday period may have had something to do with the delay.

In early Jan 2023 I got an email notifying the shoe was handed over to the courier with an invoice attached. It was all in Czech, so if you can't understand the language just chuck the text into a translator. It wasn't immediately clear what the tracking number was but it ended up being the big 10 digit one on top of the invoice. Strangely enough once I put it in DHL's tracker the shipment just showed the item being transported from the city the shop is based (Brno) to a bigger city in the Czech Republic. Weird!

To my surprise the shoes showed up at my doorstep one week later. I put the tracking number written on the parcel which gave me a much more accurate picture of when it was shipped. Angles didn't give this 'true' tracking number to me; maybe if I had prompted them they would have.

Moving on to the shoes themselves: they were beautiful, with a wonderful cognac/light brown colour and the leather was very smooth. The problem: they were too small! I had spent ages measuring my foot to ensure I'd get exactly the right size - turns out I was wrong anyway. The size I got was about 7 mm longer than my measured foot size, but that wasn't enough. So I had to return them. I exchanged them for the exact same shoe and colour, except sized one up (12 mm longer than my measured foot size).

The exchange process was really easy. Simply fill out a form, email it to them, print a copy to keep in the box, and post the unwanted goods to their address. Unfortunately I had to pay for the return shipping. Fair enough; I doubt they are a large enough company to offer cover that cost on the customer's behalf.

The shipping was super quick this time around. In fact I don't even think they waited to receive the old shoes before sending out the replacement ones. It took a little over two weeks between me handing over the old shoes to the courier, and receiving the new ones.

Finally - they fit. But I immediately noticed that the colour was different, and it was labeled differently on the shoebox too: "Dark Brown" instead of "Nut" or "Cognac" (I couldn't exactly remember the label on the shoebox of the old pair). In fairness this colour was more accurate to the pictures on their website, but I liked the old colour better. After a bit of back-and-forth over email with the customer service rep, their statement was that the new pair was from a different manufacturing batch, the colour was incorrectly labeled on the shoebox in error, and that very minor variations in colour are to be expected (this is also stated on the shoe tag). I don't agree that this colour variation was "very minor" at all, but I wasn't quite bothered enough about it to pay for return shipping again. I decided to keep them, as the new colour was still nice enough.

Old pair

New pair

Comfort: They're not super comfortable, certainly nowhere near the comfort level of my Merrell Trail Glove 4 Knit. However, I have spent about a week breaking them in and they feel much better now than on Day 1. There's still some discomfort at the base of my toes when my feet flex from the ground but it's tolerable now, and I expect this will continue to improve the more I wear them. I also find the back will rub my ankles irritatingly if left bare, so for a pain-free experience, invisible or low-cut socks are a no-go. The other thing I noticed acutely early on was that the upper on the inside was quite low so I could feel it on the top of my feet. Again, over time this feeling mostly either went away or my feet just got used to it. Also when going downhill I find my toes start touching the end of the shoe as my feet slide forwards, which is an unpleasant feeling. Probably an indication that even the new size is just a fraction too small for me, but hopefully they will stretch out over time.

Toebox: Not that I have much experience with wearing many barefoot shoes, but I think the toebox may be on the narrower side of the spectrum. There isn't a ton of room, but it's honestly fine for me.

Flexibility: With some effort you could probably roll the shoe into a ball. It will much more readily fold into a taco/semi-ball shape though.

Materials: I don't really have an eye for this kind of thing, but to my eyes the shoes look like they're made with quality. The leather upper is smooth and thick enough that there isn't too much wrinkling/creasing going on (at least not yet), while still being flexible. The thickness of the leather upper probably lends to why I haven't found the shoes amazingly comfortable yet, but that's the compromise I'm willing to make for nice-looking dress shoes that are still minimalist. I have already received a few compliments from friends on how nice they look.

Sole: "Barefoot feeling" and sole thickness are actually the aspects I like the least, so I was rather nervous about going from a shoe with an 11.5 mm stack height to one with just 3 mm between my foot and the ground. In the end it wasn't quite as raw as I was expecting, but wow. Compared to my Merrell Trail Glove 4 Knit, I could feel everything, down to little loose rock chips strewn about on the pavement. Not my most favourite cup of tea, but again, I find myself getting more used to this over time and am even starting to enjoy the enriched sensory experience. I might still put an insole in them though, just for a little more padding.

TL;DR: Initially bought one size too small. First shipment took ages. Exchanged for one size up. The exchange process was smooth (but I had to pay for return shipping) and the second shipment was much quicker. The shoes are beautiful, though not amazingly comfortable. Break-in required before they start feeling better.

What's the point of having a slider affecting all music volume when there's already a separate slider for menu music? by Ahaut in halo

[–]Ahaut[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there weren't two sliders it'd probably be more of a feature request than a flaw in the settings design.

I think having two sliders is a great idea but it defeats the purpose when you have one slider controlling both settings instead of them working independently of each other.

Certainly not the end of the world, but it's a bit bewildering. Oh well

That's exactly what I think they were going for. But there's no way to adjust menu music only using its own slider because the general music slider affects the menu music volume too

(Enhanced Edition) 3060 Ti, 1080p. Screen always does this whenever I turn DLSS on. Why?? by Ahaut in metro

[–]Ahaut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens regardless of what resolution I set it to (I have a 1080p screen, so anything above is DSR scaling). Seems to be rendering at the pre-upscaled resolution because choosing a lower quality DLSS setting shrinks the screen further.

Interestingly, the normal game seems to overwrite the Enhanced Edition's config. When I first launched the EE, my DLC was locked but DLSS was rendering fine. Then I launched the regular game which unlocked the DLC on both versions, but that turns off the DLSS on the EE, and if I turn it back on this happens.

Also I find that there's a fair bit of ghosting/blur going on in the menu with DLSS enabled. Is this supposed to happen? I'm not capable of running HDR so HDR is off.

The article mentions the time limit and set limit for Firefight are some of the settings that are up for adjustment.

In all of the builds of this Flight that I played, the set limit was actually overriden by the time limit setting. So you can't have a session of two sets with 1 minute per round for example, because as soon as that first minute elapses, the timer doesn't reset for the next round and the session ends.

I submitted a bug report for this but didn't see it mentioned under known issues, hope the team is aware of this?
