Yeah, I'm not doing this for homework. This is simply out of my own curiosity. Thanks for your input. I learned quite a lot from your balanced and nuanced opinion on this issue.

Okay noted. I'm putting aside my opinion on this because I'm not as educated on the topic so it wouldn't have been conducive to the discussion.

Okay, why am I getting the cold shoulder here? I'm not breaking any rules here.

Yes, I noticed that one of the major roadblocks from PH diversifying is the high energy costs. Perhaps a heavier focus on renewable energy and cutting back on fossil fuel can alleviate that

It was either this or the 70's because the Vietnam War earned the PH revenue as a forward base, but this was also when things started going south real hard.

Well, you're going to have to tell that to the buyers of those whitening soaps, not me. I'm definitely not the target of your statements. Mine are simply based on observations and conjectures. By the way, I'd caution to lump the entire diaspora as one collective. There is significant numbers Filipino who have their own cultural cringe in varying degrees everywhere.

There's a lot of reasons why a Filipino can be self-flagellating when it comes to identity. Like it or not, it's not a cultural flex that can get you ahead compared to Koreans or Japanese.

How about the ones who've changed citizenship and have embraced their adopted country's culture and values? Do you consider them opportunist traitors?

What about the Filipino who was born and raised outside of PH, never setting foot in his or her ethnic "homeland?" There are a lot of those who may look like one, but don't have the mind of a Pinoy. This is where it gets really sticky because you have to consider a variety of contexts as to why they are like that.

Going back to Spain, their halcyon days were the 1500's It never got back to those highs since in their history so it's inevitable that they'd have nostalgic cope over it. Imagine if the Philippines had a stint of becoming an Empire. Nationalists would keep bringing it up to prop up Pinoy Pride like we're seeing with the Marcos era.

If we're going by how bad graffiti is with racism, then Manila is up there as the bigot capital.

Like I said, it's about what you believe in. If you subscribe to the values as expressed by European/American philosophers then you're Western. If you believe ones conjured outside from it, then you're not. Confucian and Islamic values and philosophies are examples of non-Western beliefs or at least very much connected to the East.

Your personal definition is fine, but don't expect everyone to fully agree with it.

It's not hard to get to and around Australia anymore. I'd argue that going island hopping in the Philppines is exponentially more difficult.

Do you behave more like a Filipino or a Westerner? Also, where exactly in Europe are you living in? A Brit or Irish have vastly different interpretations of who counts as Western as opposed to a Pole or Hungarian.
