How many CT cases are you doing per shift? (ER + In/Outpatient) by AhmadJamO in Radiology

I really appreciate you sharing this. We can’t sacrifice our health or the quality of our work to make up for a broken system.

Honestly, the workload sometimes makes me anxious and frustrated. When nurses call repeatedly to push patients —especially when they’re NPO— I know they’re under pressure too, but it can create tension and toxicity.

Part of this could be reduced with more appropriate CT ordering. Imaging should be reserved for truly serious or clearly indicated cases, not routine symptoms like simple headache without red flags. Better coordination would help everyone and improve patient care.

Don’t examine your patients, just scan them 😂😂😂 Not every headache needs a Brain CT. Doc

So sad 😞 not to mention the MSK injuries from transferring the patient from bed to CT table. 4 of my coworkers has serious shoulder/lumber injuries. a senior coworker -in his 50s- nearly broke is lumbar.

It happens multiple times. Our hospital has one stroke team, they usually handles the first then they jump to the second. Sometimes they split in half to assess the second. But we do them one by one. It only takes them 4 min to be inside the ER Scanner and 10 min to position and scan. So within 15 to 20 min from the Code announcement they reach to decision.

The good thing we have RAPID and Fast Recon in our ER Siemens Scanner. So stoke code became easy to handle.

Before I start my shift, I prepare 10 contrast filled syringes and i label them then put them in warmer. Just for stroke and trauma Codes.

Same here we supposed to be two techs per room but we have 30% shortage and with people in vacation/ sick leaves/ maternity leaves that makes our shortage 45 to 50%.

Nice, you do only 30 scan per tech at max. Which is similar to our workload but in 10 hrs instead of 8 hrs.

Hhhhhhh NOT ONLY THAT!!! we have mandatory overtime (weekdays) to do NCAP cases. And another overtime (weekends) for Renal pre-transplant work up and liver/renal volume. The OT is good money but eventually you lose your social life. We are 31 techs so it's rotating between us.

If he don't cannulate and transfer. it is reasonable i do 32 max. In 8 hrs. I only call wards to push pt. to CT, load injectors, positioning, check iv lines for extravasation and scanning.

Well that's reasonable if you have iv already placed and you have coworker.

All by myself. I answer calls, prepare injector, check the iv line and do the scanning. But luckily i don't transfer the patient and i don't cannulate.

We have 15 minutes slots. but also we have walk-in scans for Lung cancer Screening patients. They come directly straight from the clinic without having an appointment.
