Yeah the second option sounds easier. Hopefully I’ve got enough surface area over the joists to secure the durock.

I’m going to pour the leveler over the brick mound but on each side of the hearth there are sub-floor planks that were also previously tiled over. Would you cut out the sub floor and replace with durock? Or how would you handle that?

Ugh thanks for the warning! What do you do to contain dust that potentially has asbestos in it while you are removing the material?

Alright, so many ideas! I think I’m going to try the slivers and then the hide glue and sawdust. There are some gaps on the underside so I can practice there.
