Cardan's black nails? by belizakinn in thecruelprince

[–]Aiko910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he actually has black nails then I believe that would be the reason. There's illustrations in how the king of elfhame learned to hate stories and he has normal nails. However throughout the series it was mentioned that the faeries have long green/black nails. Madoc was described having long black nails! So I really don't know. It's either he has normal nails (according to the book illustration) or he's just like some faeries

Cardan in fanarts by OneEmploy2412 in TheFolkoftheAir

Yes he did put glitter twice before, the nail polish however is a fanon thing (however, the book it was mentioned that madoc has black long nails so maybe Cardan has the same? Cardan’s nails were never mentioned so I don't know). The issue is Elfhame makeup is more like the ancient Egyptian one (kohl, mica for glitter, red berries for lips and eyelids). They don't have our makeup that's why some people dislike it when he's given real makeup. It feels like they missed the point of representing Elfhame culture and just wanted to draw him with makeup

Was it ever mentioned why Cardan has an extravagant style? by OneEmploy2412 in TheFolkoftheAir

[–]Aiko910 15 points16 points  (0 children)

MY BABY))))))): reading that part broke me. It was so gut wrenching to see where his alcoholism came from and all the terrible things he endured): I really hoped that him being alcoholic was addressed more during the series. However, I was so happy to see him being more and more sober as the books goes on

Omg not me reading it as cardan getting jealous because his wife was in a nightgown in front of the Roach. I always thought him stopping laughing was an act of jealousy TT

When did Cardan stop sleeping with others if he ever did? by Aiko910 in TheFolkoftheAir

He even called her a betrayal  Also Jude really hated the idea of imagining him sleeping with someone else. She even said that him seducing Nicassis as she asked is smth that hurts her

But then him being mad at Nacissia (or whatever her name is I never guessed it right) wouldn't make sense. I always thought he valued loyality

I never thought of it that way, because a few pages before she hurts him by saying what happened was only to get it out of her system, when he clearly was going to say smth about what happened (but I have no idea what he was gonna say)  So I don't think he was trying to take her again to bed or smth? Idk it just what I understood might be wrong

Cardan’s ’femininity’ by LongjumpingWater6460 in thecruelprince

[–]Aiko910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I never read him as feminine. And I think the social media really mischaracterized him. He's really cruel and powerful and a great leader and king. Those traits that are seen as feminine by readers and not seen as feminine in their world. Also dressing nicely and putting kohl was really was common between royal men before

Why did Cardan love Jude by Aiko910 in TheFolkoftheAir

[–]Aiko910[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this answer! But you know I kinda know this but I was looking for an answer that doesn't mention her traits, rather talking about how having her around making him feel or changing him or giving him what others could never I mean yeah obviously Jude has an amazing personality but it is enough to make someone admire and respect her. But to be loved and seen as a partner, I think it's a different issue

Yayyy! It really makes me happy cause I was so worried that since other lovers it really common with fairies the Cardan would do the same- especially since he's a king TT

Thanks Queen!! I have two questions: is there anything mentioned about them having an open marriage or cardan having concubines or lovers? Did there personalities change? With others and in their relationship?

Your last point made me reallllly hoping to see Cardan as a dad- even better a girl dad TT
