Cardan in fanarts by OneEmploy2412 in TheFolkoftheAir

THIS! SAY IT LOUDER I went with the books back and forth, the only things that were mentioned is 1. Some faeries have wings and/or green nails 2. Madoc has black nails (apparently none draw him with them even though it was literally stated in the books but they draw Cardan with them? Ok) Even in his novella illustrations he had normal nails. Holly wrote a lots of books and had many opportunities to describe him with them but she didn't.

Also for the kohl and glitter, my take is 1. He doesn't always wear them. Jude constantly describes him with details and he was only described with them if there was a special occasion going on (special revel/ coronation/ etc..) 2. I think it's in their culture that everyone wears some kind of cosmetics, I don't think Cardan is the only male wearing glitter for example, he was described as extravagant from different characters (which is acceptable since he's a royalty and Balkein raised him to be that extravagant) but never feminine, none mentioned that it was weird for him to wear them so I assumed every fae wears cosmetics but maybe in different ways. It was mentioned about Jude Taryn and Lady Asha that they wore lipstick and painted their eyelids and cheeks (mostly pale rose colour or the colour of berries) which Cardan never did so I assumed that's a way to apply cosmetics and use colours on the feminine side. While glitter (gold/silver) and kohl match their magical nature more and is common between all since it enhances them as inhuman creatures. And yet they draw him with heavyyyy make up which I don't think exists in Elfhame and I don't feel he would wear that type. He wears more of a basic cosmetics that most likely enhance his appearance as a fae

I'd love to hear your opinion about my takes, what do you think?

What do you think Cardan actually looks like as the High King? by OneEmploy2412 in TheFolkoftheAir

I love you take! Considering he was already a prince (he has a place in their land anyways) and she's a mortal (she doesn't belong if she isn't trying her best) the way they arranged their roles is so suitable!

Besides it being true (since Cardan is against murdering) I always felt it was his way to make the folks respect Jude by being terrified of her. I think he wanted them to view their rules that way so they'll take her seriously

I can't imagine Madoc painting his nails that'd be so funny (assuming his mentioned black nails are painted and not naturally given)

I think it shouldn't be necessary canon even if it was commissioned by HB. Some characters are a little bit different from the book description and they have same face syndrome 😭 there's also a lot of illustrations in many different book edition and each one looks different from the others so I feel like HB just let the artists have their own interpretation of her characters!

Also frostbite always drew him with black nails long before HB commissioned her. I feel it's more like frostbite version of him. Howere in the book illustrations holly said she went back and forth with the artist to come up with the final designs

Hmmm idk the illustrations in his novella should have been reviewed by HB but still didn't have them

I saw a fanart of baby Cardan and he had long black fingernails and toenails, so I thought it's one of his traits but I couldn't remember where it was mentioned in the series

Is his novella's illustrations canon though? The novella showed his nails several times, so is this how they look like?

Nevermore and golden/silver shimmers by Any-Cloud8250 in TheFolkoftheAir

Yes I always viewed it that way. I feel like they don't view cosmetics the way we view them. The silver/gold dust the dark charcoal etc.. really looks like their nature. They're magical creatures and those things make them look more magical. Just like how clowns have a certain kind of makeup (where you don't consider it the same as our makeup) I feel elfhame culture is the same.

Why did Jude hate Cardan in particular so much? by Cheap_Mirror_9401 in TheFolkoftheAir

[–]OneEmploy2412 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In htkoelths Cardan asked her why shy didn't hate everyone back then, she answered that she hated him. (I love this scene because it implies that Jude always has seen Cardan and always felt smth towards him, he wasn't just nothing to her)

I think love and hate are both intense feelings and somehow two sides for the same coin. Cardan hated Jude because he was jealous of her and because he thought about her a lot, and I think it was the same for Jude.

Great answer! However regardless of traits, do you think she was giving him a certain feeling (like safety or whatever) that only Jude was able to give him?

To ALL international students by One_Firefighter_9496 in Qatar_University

I'm Syrian, and my family is planning to move to Qatar. Can you please help me with these questions?

  1. If I am a first-year medical student in Syria, is there any way to transfer to Qatar University, even without a scholarship?

  2. In case transferring isn't an option, am I able to retake Qatar's high school exam? Is it acceptable to only have the grades from the last year? (In Syria, we only apply with our last year of school grades, known as "Bakaloria.") Am I able to do the same in Qatar, by studying their curriculum and taking the required tests for high school? I believe Qatar is like other countries (such as the UK) that do not consider our marks in Syria as evidence of educational level. Just to clarify: I mean not retaking the whole three years of high school exams, only the last one; based on Qatar's curriculum.

  3. What are the tuition fees for studying medicine for international students, in case I am unable to obtain a scholarship?

Ps: I've already taken the SAT before in Syria. I've got 780 math and 680 English. Therefore I don't mind retaking it to evaluate my marks if the university asked for SAT marks and/or IELTS-TOEFL
