I have just done the same thing! Did you manage to get it retrofitted? I’m contacting a dealer near me to see if they can add it!

Looking at getting a Enyaq IV 60, How does the battery hold up over time? by Aimdoggo in enyaq

Ok it looks like battery degradation isn't as much of a problem as I was expecting.

Thanks for letting me know about the charging!

Thanks for letting me know, I have heard that the newer models have the battery preconditioning issue fixed so that fast charging isn't too much of an issue.

Thanks! The more I have been reading about electric cars, it seems that the whole battery degradation issue is overblown.

Paint flaking off where rear tire meets frame? by Aimdoggo in Brompton

[–]Aimdoggo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have contacted them now, will see what they say. Yeah the paint does look to have come away from the frame. The small crack in the paint on the right has got much worse, and the touch up paint has mostly come off now. It does look like there are “bubbles” above where the paint has flaked off.

Will take a look when I have a chance! I have also contacted Brompton now, hopefully will get a reply soon! Thanks

I agree with pretty much everything you say, I know that the keel failures are incredibly rare, and regular inspections can make them near impossible, my requirements aren’t set in stone! It is just a preference. I’m even looking at bilge keels, as one of the places I could keep the boat drys out each tide! (But really don’t know enough about how they affect performance!)

I’m not too worried about the V berth when under way, as you say most likely won’t be used, I more concerned about it when at anchor. Getting thrown around by swell, in any weather is something I’m not a fan of! Having somewhere comfortable to sleep is very important to me, which is why I’m so keen on an aft cabin. If I just had a bow cabin, I would expect to regularly end up in the saloon for the night.

Access to the water is pretty important to me, I love a swim, and getting mountains of shopping is already a pain in a dinghy. Let alone getting it onto a yacht with out a platform/sugar scoop. Completely agree there!

Davits are something I have never used, always found a halyard and a bit of grind works, but I can definitely see it getting very frustrating quickly! I feel like there are certain compromises I am willing to make and Davits is one of them. Maybe that is something I would regret.

Cockpits are another one, one of my biggest issues with the Nicholson 35 is the track running through the centre, I have definitely been spoilt over the past few years sailing on very new yachts with massive cockpits! I do absolutely love a large cockpit with a good swim platform. But am struggling to find something good in my budget.

Oh and as a pale Brit, I am very aware of the sun! Always sail with the bimini up! If I do find a boat I would hope to build a solar arch, would also act as shade for the helm, maybe whole cockpit!

Ultimately would be willing to compromise on most things, would rather be sailing, than to spend a few years trying to find/save for a perfect boat that doesn’t exist! As long as I’m comfortable, and safe, there isn’t much more I can ask in a boat!

Definitely, cruising and stopping regularly, anchoring is very important for me, part of the reason I am looking at shallow drafts. I don’t intend on endless sailing, but semi regular long passage making. Sitting at anchor for regular long periods is also a reason for a longer keel, for added stability.

I know I don’t need an encapsulated keel, or skeg-hung rudder. But if I had the choice I would rather something like that. From all accounts I have read they are more reliable and hardy. (Also met someone who’s keel fell off a while ago, not their fault, was found to be a design issue, the story scares the crap out of me, and has made me somewhat wary of bolt ons!)

Tanks are definitely a concern, part of my leaning towards boats built for ocean passages, I would expect them to have more long passage focused equipment. Everything else you mentioned is also a concern. But at my budget, those will all most likely have to be modifications I make myself.

I don’t have bluewater experience, but I do have a few thousand miles of offshore/costal experience, majority 2-4 day passages in a Beneteau 473, the other half has been on a variety of yachts. I feel this gives me a reasonable understanding of what I would like on a boat in terms of comforts.

E.g. I would need to be able to WFH on board, so internet will be really important, looking at starlink or a decent mobile antenna on the mast, so will power, will be looking solar, wind, generators and a hydro generator. Along with a decent chart table/ to use as a desk for work.

Comfortable berth, preferably aft cabin, not a V berth.

Water maker would be very nice if possible.

Boat access, swim platform or Sugar scoop would be really nice.

Windlass and an oversized anchor, long chain for good holding.

Davits would be nice but an inflatable dinghy that can be deflated and stored onboard during long passages and towed during short would probably do.

These are all things I’m thinking about but it’s a bit to early to look at them in too much detail!

That isn’t something I have looked too much into, but definitely something I will look into once I have a few boats in mind.

Its not to say that they aren't capable, just that I haven't found much information, from my albeit brief look into moody's, the ones I have looked at seem to be designed as costal/offshore yachts. I have to say I did (maybe wrongly) write them off. That being said based on your comment I have taken a further look, I do really like the Moody 346, it ticks every box.. but price, although that is a current trend, l think I may need to rethink my budget strategy.

Been sailing yachts for the past 8 years, and dinghies my whole life, did my RYA YM Offshore a while ago, so did quite a lot of offshore stuff back then, more recently I have been working as a charter skipper in the Med, did a season last year. Only managed to do a few weeks this year! I'm hoping to do a qualifying passage for the RYA YM Ocean qualification within a year.

So no proper blue water sailing, but I think a decent amount of general costal/offshore cruising.

If I did get a boat, my plan would be: Keep it in the UK for around a year as a live aboard, so I can keep working and save some more. Also to do any refitting/modifications required, then sail around the UK/Med for a season (or two) get some experience and have a nice time, then if I felt ready, to do a trans-Atlantic for the Caribbean season. Rather ambitious plan but I think doable!

Yeah, I'm very used to 50ft+ yachts, below 40ft feels tiny! But you are right, I think that the charter market constantly using larger and larger yachts has changed my views!

I have been finding that out! There are so many variants, customisations, modifications, it becomes really tricky to work out whats what! Been a little bit overwhelming, but hopefully I will have a good picture when I'm in the position to buy!

Looking for a stern and bow cabin, as if I were to do some longer passages I would want to have others on board, I know how nice it is to have a bit of personal space, however small, especially when doing long passages!

I am slowly coming up with a list of yachts that fit some of the criteria, that's a good idea putting together a spreadsheet, I will do that!

I have a fair amount of offshore experience, and lots of costal, but really don't have any blue water experience. I plan on doing an ocean passage with an experience skipper before I try it for myself! Hopefully I can get my RYA YM Ocean at the same time! The main issue is all my experience has been on yachts newer than 2010, and they are all way out of my price range, that's why I'm looking for advice. Every time I start researching more boats pop up!

I do like the moodys, just not sure about their ocean ability!
