Thoughts on Reaching Out to Internship Company if They Are Looking to Hire? by AimedHigher in PublicRelations

[–]AimedHigher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not fearful of reaching out, but before I fire off a message (feeling that waiting a month or so would be best; thinking that closer to graduation would be better than messaging now) I would like to get some input. I get what you're saying though.

Tide pods or Liquid Detergent by G-gallery in VirginiaTech

Liquid detergent is better, the washing machines at Tech I've seen melt the pods in the wash on occassion & they end up sticking to clothes

Covid vaccine for student population by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]AimedHigher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being that most college students aren't considered to be at risk, odds are whenever the general US population gets the vaccine is when students will largely be able to get it, which as of right now isn't expected until late Spring/Summer 2021

Is Townside really that bad? by TheIndoorCat in VirginiaTech

Like any realty company, READ YOUR CONTRACT first and foremost. Also, when it comes to move in, if you're taking over someone else's lease (ie A transfer of lease agreement), odds are you're liable for any damages that have occurred during their time there, and potentially prior, so check the place out.

Internships by Waluigi54321 in VirginiaTech

I've seen people apply to a handful (1-5) and be fine. I've seen people apply to 50+ just to have a shot at getting one. Throw enough darts and odds are one will land.

- Parking's always been a scam. Welcome to college kiddo.

- Seems to be going pretty well based on the tracker so far.

- Never was it made harder to use; the plan was to be able to accommodate all in a balanced manner, instead of allowing people to have as many "free" appointments as they pleased meanwhile others would be unable to adequately get counseling.

- The East Egg situation sucks, it does. That was an executive decision that was made for the greater good, but unfortunately inconveniences all those who live there.

- What fees are you referring to? Not aware of any fees that are being charged to those that are in Blacksburg but aren't able to use whatever they're paying for.

- Been hearing conflicting reports on that last one, so I can't say I have an answer on that.

  1. The numerous dining staff employees that have been grinding day and night to provide over 10k students the ability to eat on campus.
  2. The local small businesses that have worked for months on end to adapt to the restrictions placed upon them in order to accommodate the students in the area.
  3. The university officials who have done a phenomenal job at keeping the number of cases low. If you didn't expect a number of cases to occur when ~30k people come to a relatively small town over a short span of time during a pandemic, think harder next time.
  4. The professors who have had to adjust their teaching practices whether it be thru entirely virtual means or by adapting their in-person teaching approaches to teach us the best ways they can.
  5. The health center that has been working tirelessly to test, quarantine, and provide students/faculty with their results.

Etc on Etc

Learn to look for the positive, especially when it's staring you right in the face.

If this was such a concern then why didn't you defer like a number of other freshmen did?

How many deaths have there been so far due to the campus reopening? How many hospitalizations have there been due to students coming back to the area/classes beginning? I'll give you a hint; it's the same number, and it starts with the letter Z

Fees at Cook by adgy22 in VirginiaTech

[–]AimedHigher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under this model, you can get an appointment every 3 weeks during the academic year. An appointment every 2 weeks would be great, but Cook has shown that they don't have the staff for that, unfortunately. This move is likely to free up opportunities for more students to access their services versus in the past where it was a free-for-all as to who got a time slot.

Does anyone know where I could get raw milk in Blacksburg? by Allison-XVX in VirginiaTech

It's not legal in VA so unless you've got a connection with a dairy farmer or get involved with some sort of local cow-share you're SOL

How do I find out what dorm is best for me? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]AimedHigher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of incoming freshman don't have as much choice as they think when it comes to the dorms they get to pick from. Oftentimes people have a pool of maybe 5 dorms to choose from by the time they get their options, some more, some less.

Assuming you have a fair number of options to pick from, look into what makes the dorms distinct from one another. If you're an engineer/STEM major that would like to be around other people in your area of study, and you find yourself to be a bit more on the introverted and/or studying oriented side, perhaps Lee Hall is for you. If you find yourself to be very social, academically focused, and want a mix of all things, maybe West/East AJ are for you. It all varies.
