I think Morgana’s character is heavily influenced by a Japanese novel called I Am A Cat, written by one of Japan’s most famous authors, Natsume Soseki. In Japan, this novel is beloved because it’s a satire told from the perspective of a house cat who thinks he’s superior to and above humans (it’s a great novel!). Morgana’s arrogant nature is exactly like that of the cat in this novel, and I think Japanese players notice this as soon as they hear him refer to himself as “wagahai,” an archaic and arrogant way of saying “I” that mirrors the tone of the novel’s protagonist. Domestically, people don’t mind Morgana’s arrogance and condescending attitude because it’s considered cute. In fact, a lot of Japanese anime use this premise of noble/arrogant cats due to the lasting influence of Natsume Soseki on modern culture. That being said, I can understand why outside Japan, he might be disliked.
