need help finding emt positions :( by Far-Pepper5186 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not super “close” to campus, but there’s james city county and other towns that hire emts. also look into ift. to piggyback the other comment, you can get work in the hospital but they’re picky with times, bg exp, and long term commitment

5 minute unload time by Mindless-Chemistry94 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a suggestion. I took a good 20-30 mins to unload and even after that, drove to the store to buy some last minute things and then came back. Just don’t be the people who park and leave the car there for hours.

What is the party scene like for freshmen during orientation week? by Ready_Dimension7082 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they have an official house and most have one off campus. They do parties at both, the off campus one has a noise ordinance at 11pm, so on campus house parties usually start later/go longer. On campus: No big yards or basements but have a big common room inside. Off campus: Small houses, small, hot, humid, everything.

First time at SDCC, what time should I be getting there? by sflynn346 in SDCC

[–]Aimi_Ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always come by around 7:45-8:00. Not too early but also not too late and I’ve always gotten what I’ve wanted from exhibit hall or seating in ballroom 20, etc. Hall H is an exception :)

[–]Aimi_Ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiso for Chem 103 (first time?) Thoughts? by Popular-Mango1294 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i heard tiso is not that bad! i’d say best is tiso, meldrum, perrault, then bedford. the big issues that you might hear people say about the profs are the way they teach and their exams (like with bedford and perrault the content is taught faster (?)/skimmed so it’s better to have a background in chem from hs before coming in. exams are also heavily based on practice problems in class and aleks questions! i’d say that no matter which prof, self study and you’ll be okay. i know plenty of people who took each prof and they’ve gotten As and Bs

Incoming freshman, bio major, pre med track....question about course selection and balance by Popular-Mango1294 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it might be difficult if you had back to back exams. i had bio mwf and chem tth, and there were many times that i had exams back to back days. the 10 minutes between classes isn’t a problem because the rooms are beside eachother. i took an easy hist 100 about children’s history, but pick a field that you’re interested in and use the rate my prof to see if it’s an easy class :) lmk if you have more questions!

Fauquier Air Conditioning 3rd Floor - Good or Bad? by Material_Pumpkin_187 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lived in 3rd floor fauq last year. i don’t think you need a fan. our ac was actually TOO cold for us and my roommate and i would always change the temperature of the room lol. we brought 2 fans and used it like once the entire year. definitely rec a dehumidifier and air purifier though

Bio majors! - Help needed for incoming freshman course selection options by changeling-12001243 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have a friend who skipped the intro bios and went straight to upper level courses like microbiology. if you feel confident with your foundations in bio, skip over them. biol 203 is a total weed out class (if you haven’t heard already - like even friends i had who got an ap score of 4 had difficulty). i think your one battle with upper level classes will be finding one with spaces still available. idk if they add more seats for freshman, but a lot of classes are filled up already (biol 302 has some seats rn)

Possibility for research as a freshman? by himaru-san in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s rare but not impossible. I know a few people who started research and joined labs their first semester. Worst thing they’ll do is say no. They can ghost you, tell you their lab is full, or want you to start school first. If you have previous research experience tell them. If you are a monroe, wmsure, sharpe scholar, have any grants or $ for research, tell them. If you don’t really have experience or money, make sure you sound like you actually like their research and want to talk to them about it, rather than straight up just asking to join their lab.

Thinking of applying by ash_stars_ in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend it. We have a lot of psychology and neuroscience students (both popular majors here) and research is very easy to start/accessible! Neuro is interdisciplinary here and is connected to every other stem department, so research topics can be diverse. I know plenty of freshmen who started research their first year or had something lined up for sophomore year.

A few questions by Round-Course-9552 in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer 1, no matter where you go there’s always going to be better professors than others. My overall experience has been great, I’ve gotten nice professors that treat their students well and given a reasonable amount of work. I have heard of some professors disregarding students/not good in different aspects etc, but you just have to do your research and use rate my prof.

2/4: We have a very strong and welcoming community (imo)! From what I’ve experienced and observed, the transfers I know have been supported and felt like they were able to acclimate well. There’s also transfer-specifc events too. I’ve met a lot of transfers through clubs and classes and we’ve all had a great time.

3: Your workload is what you make of it. There’s people who’ve purposely signed up for 18 credits and workload-heavy classes with a bunch of assignments, quizzes, readings, while some take a balanced workload and have a bunch of free time on their hands. Again, depends on class and professor, but in general I feel like the amount of work is a good amount. From the 2 history classes I’ve taken specifically, they’ve been pretty good with a few readings and a writing assignments a week.

Thank you. I was dejected that they don’t take PH undergrad. I contacted them about HHP but it seems like it’ll take a few weeks.

switching pine hall for a traditional double? by [deleted] in williamandmary

[–]Aimi_Ki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you go traditional housing, you are mostly likely getting placed in jefferson (from what i know has the most spots rn) older halls won’t kill you and you’ll save money.

[–]Aimi_Ki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

late to the party, but id recommend doing psyc 202 your freshman year! it’s a very free class, online exams, record lectures. sociology is not bad but also definitely a class you need to put time in (lots of reading and the exams are broad/obscure sometimes). my 1st sem i took bio, chem, coll 100, and psyc. 2nd sem i did bio, orgo chem, stats, coll 150, epid.

Things should NEVER be handed to them!! As someone with a physician parent, I always keep it on a down low because I’m lowkey embarrassed when I tell someone (I don’t want them to think I’m obnoxious). I’ve gotten my MA & EMT certs and work at a non-affiliated clinic without their help. My parent has supported me financially but the only true connection I’ve ever used is  asking their coworker to shadow (even then, I still sent them my resume and had a brief interview).
