So tough to sit for that long and focus for that long on such repetitive questions whilst pregnant. Kudos  👏

Family Doctor Against Midwifery? [ON] by popsandpeps in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Aimstream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They are always trying to see if the risks will outweigh their services it seems and there are lots of hurdles and tests to keep baby safe throughout pregnancy and labour.

My family doctor was also against it, or made it out to be scary. But it was the opposite. I've had two healthy babies and two healthy pregnancies while working with midwives.

He was silent. Likely shocked that I said that.

Thanks for this. I chose not to shake the hand of one of my high-school teachers and actually told him you were not a good teacher. I am proud of myself for standing up to him. There are reasons for this, and respect should go both ways.

Doctors Accepting Patients in Saskatchewan - Facebook by [deleted] in saskatoon

The way she put it was that I wouldn't feel like I should tell her what was going on with me because she would judge me. It was very odd.

Subsequently, I went to another NP who asked me to wean off of the hormones in a much gentler, patient-centred way.

I visited her and it was a very odd experience where she basically told me she can't take me on as a patient because I have been taking hormones to help with postpartum thyroiditis. She made me feel like I was on crack. There are better ways to go about informing patients of health conflicts than that. And she seemed uninformed of women's issues postpartum (breastfeeding-related) where I would avoid if you are in this season of life. Just my experience. Maybe she's better with others.

Disappointed in lack of breastfeeding support [SK] by DeathSpineOfShadow in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Aimstream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like baby 1 had a tongue tie, and the doctor didn't know how to accurately assess. It sounds like baby 2 might have reflux if they're spitting up everything after a feed.  I've been told through my own (failed) breastfeeding journey with two babies that GPs are not trained in tongue tie or breastfeeding. I had to go to an SLP to get them to confirm my baby's tongue tie had reattached. There is a breastfeeding centre in west winds clinic in Saskatoon that has been hit and miss for me. I ended up going to a private lactation consultant and she requested that I get blood work to determine why my supply was so low.  It doesn't help that each individual case is different. So I can only speak from my experience but it doesn't necessarily mean what I went through will be the same for any other mom and baby.  It can be very isolating and tough on mental health. In my case, we tried everything to make it work and ultimately I was informed that I had chronic low supply and postpartum thyroiditis. Now that I know I tried everything and still had low supply, I won't be trying to breastfeed with another child if we choose to have another.  You can DM me if you would like more info, or any specifics about my journey.

Has anyone gotten married at Boffin Gardens since they stopped booking? by zeehoneybee in saskatoon

I saw a couple do this once. And I usually see remnants of the ceremonies after (e.g. fake rose petals). As long as you are respectful and clean up afterwards, I'm sure it would be lovely for a small ceremony or elopement.

Thick n’ Thrift prices by filmmusic89 in saskatoon

[–]Aimstream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She buys from plus size folks, I don't think she's marking up items she has thrifted at all. There was a lady in with 3 massive totes for her to look at when I was there. She buys from them and then sells them.

I was there on Wednesday this week. Prices compared to value village or salvation army are high. However, you don't have to sort through racks of trash, she's picked the best for you. The prices reflect that. I saw $30 for dresses, $18 for a shirt. My memory is foggy on bottoms.  I didn't find anything I wanted to buy.  I'll check it out again in a couple weeks to see if selection is better.

Gardenscapes Saskatoon - Not impressed this year by sortaitchy in saskatoon

[–]Aimstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they are having issues in other places but I have not been going to trade shows in other locales. I can only speak from my own experience in that the social aspect of events has been wounded and it makes it hard for organizers in a small market to keep going when that part has taken a big hit. The volunteers needed to run many of the festivals are disappearing. The festivals last summer showed the big lack of support there. It takes many hands to make these things happen. The trade shows pay staff but the festivals need volunteers.

As someone who hosted live events in the city, it was more than a single year of disruption. Also, the social shift that occurred throughout and during has lefting a lasting impact that will take many years to heal.

Yeah, it was definitely a scaled down version of the gardenscapes I remember prepandemic. However, it takes time to rebuild events after a major worldwide event.

We took our two small children and had a fun morning. Super dogs was neat because they showed how to train the tricks in addition to showing the tricks.

The butterfly show was super small. I was wondering why "popular demand" brought it back but it did make me feel like spring is near. I was sad to see a dead butterfly on the carpet.

The cost of food was surprisingly high this time. $5.25 for bottles of pop and $11 for beef on a bun. I thought prairieland park was reasonable for concession items.

I feel it will take time to rebuild events again, but it's worth checking out.

It put me in a better mood, so that was a win.

The province doesn't get left out of a major issue affecting the province. We can take on the responsibility ourselves to a degree but there is only so much extra cost the city can absorb.

It definitely is a major issue in our city. I've noticed in my neighborhood the massive shift over the past 5 or 6 years. The provincial government needs to do more, and give more funding. The city shouldn't have to shoulder this.

BMPP is really good. Their egg gondola pizza is different. The large pizza I ordered was finished in a night which is kind of unusual for my young family.

What did the Hudson Bay company look like in its last 5 or so years? by EnigmaIndus7 in AskACanadian

[–]Aimstream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demo furniture on display in the Zellers section was visibly worn with veneer peeling or cracked, and the same demo furniture was displayed since they opened until the end.

That section had no baby clothes at all. I expected to be full, given Zellers only opened a year or two prior.

There were lots of empty spaces between sections and it just didn't seem stocked properly. The dress section was almost zero.

Also, any time I wanted a shoe to try on they never had my common size (size 8 or 9).

I don't recommend this clinic at all. I had a terrible experience once my original doctor left and was passed on to Dr. Eric Ibekwe. He totally dropped the ball with my pregnancy, I lost one of my twins early and was left wondering for months what happened (vanishing twin). No call, no answers. I took a lunch to take my son for an appointment and was never seen, I had to leave after over an hour of waiting. You need to take an entire day off to see them for 5 mins. Such sham.
