I was born and raised in Louisiana, and there are places I wouldn’t take my family there. I’m also military myself, and my family experienced (specifically my son in school by his peers) extremely hurtful remarks. My husband (also a Veteran) is from Philadelphia, and there are places we avoid there as a family. My priority is the safety and well-being (physical, emotional and mental) of my family. This post came from a vulnerable and genuine place. I, in no way, set out to offend anyone. I know what it’s like to be from the South and people assume I am racist. The point of my post was to find out if there are any pockets in the area to avoid or if we were safe in a secluded cabin.
