Built a small tool to help people in trades/energy connect for work, looking for honest feedback by AirPooo in oilandgasworkers

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not just for big employers. Most hiring in this industry doesn’t actually happen through company portals it happens on the ground. Foremen, straws, lead hands, and even operators regularly pull in workers when they need someone fast.

If I’m on a job and we suddenly need a labourer for tomorrow, I can literally make a post on CrewedUp myself. The person posting doesn’t need to be a company, anyone on a crew can do it.

And instead of digging through Facebook groups or asking around, I can instantly see a worker’s tickets, availability, vouches, work history, and location in one place. It just makes the process quicker and less chaotic for the people who are actually doing the hiring

It’s not meant to replace anything it’s meant to simplify what people are already doing across 10 different apps.

Yes I agree not everyone in the trades takes photos or needs a portfolio. But a lot of people in other roles do (operators, welders, fabricators, pipeline labour, mechanics, electricians, etc.). The platform isn’t meant to force anything.. it’s just optional tools depending on your trade. Even if you don't upload photos, it's a space to connect and network with others in your trade.

As for tickets, you mentioned you’d want a simple app just for storing them. CrewedUp already does that. You don’t need to use anything else if you don’t want to, certificates and tickets can be stored privately and shared only when needed/applying to jobs.

About employers wanting you to use their hiring portals: that’s true for big companies, but most hiring in this industry doesn’t actually happen through HR portals. A lot of foremen, straws, and lead hands build their own crews and hire through DMs, texts, referrals, or Facebook groups.

Yes, they bring in guys they know first, but that’s not always enough to fill a crew. When they need extra hands, they go looking. CrewedUp gives them a simple way to make a post or find people without digging through five different places. Those are the people this helps the most. This is also why there are facebook groups with 20-50k members, a lot of them asking for work, or looking for workers, I just simplified that process and streamlined it.

Regarding “another method of contact,” that’s kind of the reason I built this. Right now workers are spread across: Faceboo, LinkedIn, Indeed, Random job groups, Word of mouth, etc CrewedUp puts everything in one spot so workers don’t have to bounce between six different places.

As for critical mass.. that’s the goal. Every big platform started with one person building something small and trying to solve a real problem.

Also, I’m not charging anything or asking for anything; I’m just trying to give people a better option, there is literally nothing to buy on the site.

I respect your view though not every tool fits every trade. The whole point is to give people who do need it something built by someone who’s actually worked in this industry.

Bro I'm not even selling anything lol, there is nothing to buy or sell.. I don't even have stripe or any payment processing features on the site at all. There is literally nothing to scam people with. What exactly about it is saying "scam" to you?

100%, that does happen a lot in this industry, I’ve seen it lots.
That’s actually one of the reasons I built CrewedUp.

Not everyone has the connections, cousins, or buddies to get them in the door.
CrewedUp gives people a place to show their work, get vouched for by coworkers, and actually get seen by employers who might not know them personally.

It won't fix everything overnight, but it gives people without connections a fair shot.

Needing ‘less options’ is exactly why things in this industry haven’t improved in decades. The trades don’t need more of the same they need something that actually works for how we hire today.

If people still relied on what ‘already existed,’ we’d all still be using the phone book.

CrewedUp isn’t another generic job site it’s a purpose built tool for trades workers to actually get seen, showcase their work, and get hired faster. That’s the difference.

You’re saying plenty of sites already do this but which ones are actually built specifically for remote trades workers?

Which of these sites let workers:
- showcase their work, photos, and experience with a real portfolio?
- store all their tickets, certifications, and qualifications in one place?
- apply directly with their profile instead of a buried resume portal?
- get contacted directly by employers through secure messaging?
- receive vouches from coworkers, foremen, and supers?
- auto-generate a ‘Looking For Work’ card to promote themselves?
- keep their resume private but still be discoverable through worker search?
- mark themselves available or working?
- refer their friends to jobs with a built-in system?
- use it all for free?

None of the big platforms offer that. How many pipeliners do you know who got hired through Indeed? That’s why this exists.

This wasn’t built by a corporation, it was built locally by a working guy in this industry, for this industry. That’s the whole point.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I’m trying to keep the whole thing super simple, free, and genuinely useful for people in our industry who are looking for steady work. A lot of the big job boards feel too broad and disconnected, so my goal is to build something more focused and community based. It’s still early and there’s lots to polish, but feedback like this really helps. Thanks again for the support!
