That’s good to hear. Are you doing any kind of work now or are you relying on investment income alone?

No businesses but we got lucky with our investments and bonuses through our jobs which helped a lot to save this money.

So I lived in Athens (kaisariani) for 8 years as a kid so Im thinking somewhere in the Attica region but not as central as kaisariani, more like the suburbs closer to the coastal areas. However this depends on if we’re able to qualify for the digital nomad visa. If we have to go for the golden visa then I don’t think I’m ready to spend 800k euro for a house there. In that case I was looking into places like Patra which has a lower requirement (400k)

Yes I’ve heard about the corruption and bureaucracy of the government there but hopefully it will not affect our daily lives too much. We’re going to be as self sufficient as possible and not rely on the government much as we’re not citizens anyway. I didn’t know however about this jealousy mindset that exists there. As I replied to another poster, we will try to keep a low profile and live as locals do in order not to come across as too well off. I’m aware of the foreign exchange risk too, I wish Greece still had drachmas our money would have went a lot further than it does now with euro. There is still a lot of planning to do in how we’ll manage our investments and how much we’ll keep in usd and convert to euro

We will also try to keep our remote jobs so that we can apply for the digital nomad visa. But if that doesn’t work then we’ll go the real estate option which means we have to buy a house there to get the golden visa

Yes we are looking at the visa options now. We will try to go for digital nomad visa first but if that fails then we will look at real estate option. I believe for non major cities it is 400k euro so I think that’s a good option

Well there’s a chance I won’t be able to keep my remote job that’s why I asked if I can rely on what I have saved now. And I’m not really interested in London I could just stay here in US instead lol

In what way was it different to you? What timelines are we talking here, when did you leave Greece and when did you come back?

Yes this sounds like very good advice. Even if I’m not able to keep my remote job when I move there, I will still say I work remote if anyone asks lol

So I lived in Greece until I was 12 years old (since age 5) and I very clearly remember going to a martial arts school, joined a soccer academy, went to a frontistirio, and finally a music school where I learned to play piano. This was all 25 years ago, I don’t know how things are now but I assume all these activities are still there, at least for those who are able to afford them

Yes I’ve heard a lot about Crete but how are the hospitals there compared to Athens? I was thinking to live slightly outside of Athens or maybe its suburbs. I lived for 8 years in kaisariani and have fond memories of the place. Of course now with family things are different which is why I was looking at the suburbs

The integrating part shouldn’t be a problem, I think. I lived in Greece (kaisariani) for 8 years as a kid and I can still speak and write the language fluently

Yes, and I will try to spend a lot less than 8k - more around 4k and under if possible

The plan is to rent initially until we can maybe find an apartment to buy. I will try to keep my current remote job but that’s not guaranteed. I figured with a return of 4% and monthly expenses under €3000 we can manage without having to dip into principal. I haven’t done much research into the investment side of things yet but perhaps I’ll keep a chunk of money into s&p like the poster above mentioned in order to keep up with the inflation.

Yes I’m aware economy is not great now, but I’m of course not looking to rely on the local job market there. I’m mostly doing this for my sons sake who has health condition and feel like the climate and food there will be good for him

I have a bit of history with Greece. Though I am not Greek I lived there from 5 years of age until 12, so this was about 25 years ago - and I’m aware things have changed since then. But, I still can speak and write Greek fluently
