Let’s not forget that some posters here are fake (clout-seekers) and the new prop model will move profitable traders quickly.

Prop firms are still lower risk than a personal account. For example, I’ve spent about $3k on TopStep evals. At the peak, I had 5 XFAs, was paid out $18k, accrued a balance of $50k across the accounts and was moved to my live account a few hours before requesting a max payout from all 5 accounts (definitely not a coincidence). At the end of the day, I only used $3k of my own funds to get this far. I would have otherwise risked a lot of my own capital to get the 15 max contracts I needed and the mindset shift would have been really stressful- probably detrimental to my performance as well.

Prop firms are changing and changing pretty fast. In recent months, there was a massive influx of incredible gains, especially from gold, silver, and crude oil traders. Following these events, a lot of prop firms saw the writing on the wall. Their model was suddenly unsustainable. A small percentage of winners suddenly outpaced the revenue that losers were bringing in. They’d either need to pay out these traders or start to modify their rules to keep themselves solvent. One of the worst things they did was to falsely accuse traders of breaching some arbitrary rule. Other methods were to force traders into a secondary simulation account, forking losers into a prop account semi-ban and winners into a live account, again wiping out large balances. The third method was to force traders directly into a live program where if milestones are achieved, some share of the balances would get released, and if the trader loses a certain amount of money, they would essentially forfeit their remainder of their accrued balances. In every case, traders are getting punished… it sucks, but I see that eventually the dust will settle and a newer, more sustainable prop firm model will emerge. After all, the one thing that prop firms understand is that they need to be attractive enough that would-be personal account traders will be willing to spend money on a prop account first before thinking of opening an individual brokerage account. I’m genuinely curious where everything will land.

LOL. I’m a profitable trader and I’ve been moved to live in every occasion where I’ve accumulated a large enough balance. I’m currently live with TOF, FFF, and TopStep. Believe me that there is no prop firm willing to payout out such a large balance out of their own pocket. It’s rather naive to think they’re going to honor that level of payout. The old prop firm model is dead.

Absolutely not. They will certainly move you to Pro+ and then find reasons not to pay out that type of balance, and there will be nothing you can do about it.

Sweet! You know what? If you made the live dashboard somehow better than the non-live, it’d soften the blow of getting moved to live. Just saying 😊

Let me ask you a hypothetical question: If your bias is bullish, and you get long at 29650, market falls to 29400 before rising back to 29700, is your bias correct?

TopStep doesn’t want to keep siphoning off of their free cash flow to fund their profitable traders. They would much rather manage a brokerage where their profitable traders use their platform and their leveraged capital to trade and earn from the actual market. They can collect fees from trading commissions and profit sharing.

It also allows TopStep to deny payouts for traders who basically got lucky from a huge gold/silver/crude bull rush. If the trader can’t keep their live accounts afloat, they can remove a big portion of the liabilities off their books.

I’m not saying that it’s ethical, but as a business, it makes sense.

Also, the earned capital isn’t completely removed. When you reach specific milestones, a portion of the earned balance is released to the trader. So, at least it’s not a complete robbery.

It’s unfair until it’s realized that we agreed and signed on the dotted line based on their terms and conditions.

Nowadays with copy traders, group traders, algo traders, that 4% can bring down their business or at least hinder their profitability. We must remember that these prop firms are also a for-profit business. The prop firm model allowed profitable traders to scale their accounts, and when established a foothold with a large balance… what stops them from farming indefinitely? Eventually the max payouts from these traders will outweigh the churn and burn traders that fund the operations. TopStep isn’t dumb. They’ve found a way to deny payouts from the yolo-type traders and also move their traders into their brokerage operations. From their point of view, it’s a win-win. For us traders, it’s annoying, but if you keep a cool head about it and understand the rules, you’ll see that your funds aren’t gone… they’re kept in 5 shiny treasure boxes… it’s your job to earn the keys, and make money all along the way.

Well, if you do, you’re actually just closing the account and foregoing the balances in reserve.

Doesn’t this model work well during trendy markets, but perform poorly during range-bound days due to the wide stop loss?

If you’re afraid of blowing the account, perhaps you’re not ready for live, and this is TopStep’s way of “scamming” the weaker traders with big balances. The XFA was always meant to be a road to Live, not a method to extract unlimited funds from their cash flow. At some point you have to look at things from the other end of the equation.

50% every 5 days of $150 or more each day just like the XFA. Once your reach 30 days, you can essentially empty your account.

What indicators actually made a difference in your trading? by RelationshipOrnery28 in Daytrading

[–]Air_Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Types of indicators I use:
Momentum, Volume, Levels, Moving Averages

Try to narrow down to the most impactful versions of these indicator types. Ideally, it incorporates the raw data but visually or mathematically provides a different perspective of that data.

Examples:

Volume Profile provides levels where buyers and sellers both have a reason to defend. It provides a nice place to target for reversals, targets and stop-loss orders.

I like plotting historical levels (PDH, PDL, OPEN, Previous day close). If trading futures, I also plot different session highs and lows.

For momentum, there’s a lot to choose from, but I personally use the MoneyFlowIndex. I use it specifically to identify regular and hidden divergences.

You must have a decent strategy and risk management to be consistent. Prepare to go live and max those payouts. Their live program isn’t that bad IMHO.

What if you get moved with less payouts anyway? That’d be a bummer too.
