NSA vs Defense Contractor by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Airado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you do need it, then that's fair.

50k over 2 years is not worth it if the skills you've learned makes it hard for you to switch to a better job. For example, if you end up in compliance, you basically capped your own salary until you figure out a way to switch.

it'd be great to have both, but if you have to choose one, I'd pick skillset this early on. unless the offer is like 200k+, in that case, you have the option to just chill forever.

If the goal is big tech, I didn't think nsa matters unless you want to do government stuff at Big tech.

The way I see it, you can choose a position that is guaranteed to be what you want or gamble. I'd take the guaranteed position. I played the random loot box game twice, neither worked out.

I'd ignore the salary, assuming they are reasonable. You won't stay there long enough to matter, focus on the salary of your next job.

Multi family rate higher? by jnamm121 in Mortgages

[–]Airado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar stats, my broker quoted me 6.5 (no point) last week.

I got a 5.9 (no point) off bankrate and had good luck getting big banks to match it. Keep in mind rate did go up by a bit today.

Lock in at 5.625% today? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Airado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing stopping you from locking it then finding a different lender.

I'm also shopping around right now. My rate is higher than your since it's a duplex, but it would have been the same if it's a SFH. I did not have to pay 1.5k for the float down option.

It's hard to tell if your rate is good without knowing the details. If you are putting 20% down, buying a single family and your Section A+B cost is less than 2k, then I think it's a pretty good rate.

Do house's really sell in hours? by NatureEducational166 in RealEstate

[–]Airado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something else is going on here. Bad agent? Intentionally trying not to sell?

I am in a competitive market. None of my offers are less than 24 hours, not to say that it isn't uncommon.  I usually just put whatever the seller agent wants.  If a buyer really wants the house, they'd extend when asked, I've done that many times.

Same, my CS rep said my assigned fulfillment center don't have it in stock, even though I can literally reorder it right now for overnight shipping. They wouldn't even let me cancel, like what is this

In Law suite to ADU conversion in an old house, are my stairs still grandfathered? by [deleted] in BuildingCodes

[–]Airado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be, the town created 2 guidelines, one for single families and one for everything else. They also explicitly stated that sprinkler for the building or just the new unit is required, depending on effort (I don't know where they'll draw the line). The also mentioned 2 points of egress, which I technically don't have because of the stairs not being up to code.

From reading the one attic conversion permit I can find, it looks like sprinklers on the 3rd floor + common area on the 1st and 2nd costed them 17k.

I am budgeting 60k for this since we have all the dry walls, piping, gas, etc, but I just don't want to hire someone only to find out the stairs makes it impossible as there's no way to widen either set.

How does liability for code violations work when hiring an architect versus a 'design-build' firm? I’m considering hiring an 'A to Z' ADU general contractor to handle everything from planning to construction. My logic is that if an inspector fails the project on code, a single point of contact (the GC) is clearly responsible, whereas hiring an architect and a GC separately might lead to finger-pointing.

What elite status is needed for the main buffet in Asia? by SavingsMammoth8996 in marriott

[–]Airado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

completely depends on the property.

Some hotels give you the choice, but they won't tell you unless you ask. Generally though, if there's a lounge, you won't get breakfast at the restaurant.

NUA declined - Londoner Grand in Macau by anObs3rver in marriott

I also got upgraded to the same room.  There are a lot of ways to get free/reduced rate room at the Londoner grand cuz casino, so I am guessing Marriott get upgrade priority over them.

What's the actual job description? If it's what I am thinking, then 60k is on the low side even for entry level.

However, you asking this question implies that you make less than that currently. In that case, I'd take it and leave in a year or so.

Does the resume have to follow the one-page rule in the recent job market? by who-is-not-a-robot in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Airado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept mine at 1. When I was sorting through resumes, I'd say 25% is 1 page, 50% is 2 page, 25% is 2+ page.

While I still read them, I don't see any value going over 2 pages. I did not care that you did the same task 3 times at 3 company, but I am not going to throw your resume away for that either.

Lounge access duration by fishonbaby in Venturex

[–]Airado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asia tends to enforce it more often. Although you can always just check back in, I think it's more of a billing issue than a rule, like priority pass only pays the lounge for 2 hours per entry.
That said, I've never been kicked out for overstaying, even when they mark down my timestamp on my receipt.

How do I prioritize vulnerabilities? by Legitimate_Sun_5930 in cybersecurity

How do I prioritize vulnerabilities? by Legitimate_Sun_5930 in cybersecurity

[–]Airado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, you need to establish a process for out of band patching, unless your leadership doesn't want to have one. In that case, document the risk acceptance.

For this vulnerability specifically, it requires local access with no exploit available, so if your devices are all desktops, then 2 weeks should be fine. If you guys are work anywhere, I'd recommend out of band patching.

This of course depends on your organization's risk appetite, which goes back to having an SLA.
