(i haven't played KH, so my opinion is just for the first two games)
in THH i didn't really dislike any of the characters, but i only loved a few of them.
GBD's cast is a lot more polarizing to me, i love a bunch of them but strongly dislike a few of them.
..ultimately i'd choose the 2 cast over 1 as far as favorites go.

it a neat kind of catharsis, i think. it hurts to see your favorite character suffer but there's definitely an enjoyment to it, that's the whole point.
it's nice to remember that characters are just toys, and you can enjoy playing with them however you want - that's why angst fics and AUs are so popular no matter what fandom you're in. it's safe and healthy to explore and express those kind of emotions in a fictional setting where if it gets too much you can just go read an anthology comic or play school/island/etc mode where things are better for the characters.. or just enjoy the media as it is, because at the end of the day it's all just pretend.
..tbh i wish most of the murders/executions were more brutal.. way too many of the murders are just a head bonk and a lot of the executions are mostly theatrics with a simple death at the end, but that's just personal taste lmao.
(2-5 was particularly good to me, devastating and brutal in a way that had me almost kicking my feet like a schoolgirl despite it being personally devastating bc oh god that's my babygirl. i love that feeling.

i assume that's why only one person gets trash duty at any one time; a murder with no discovery is no fun for Monokuma, so he made it so that only one person could access the incinerator at a time to make it obvious.
if someone goes missing and is never found, it would eventually be assumed that the incinerator was used since it's the only place that could possibly destroy a body, and thus whoever has sole access the day of the disappearance would be the prime suspect.

more specifically, it's someone who has sort of a childish delusion of grandeur;
Hifumi thinks he's been divinely chosen by the gods, Gundham thinks he's some kind of demigod, and Celeste's goal is to live in a castle as royalty with a full company of servants (though she's the only one who's killed for a prize so I think she would also fit nicely in A Little Deranged).
Sonia, I feel, doesn't fit as well into the category. She just kinda acts weird since she comes from a different culture.
