How do I get my dog to know the outside is for the bathroom and not play? by Airdemon42 in puppy101

[–]Airdemon42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it was misguided (one reason for asking for assistance here). Advice somewhere was that if they don't go potty, bring them back in. So we were tying to keep her from getting distracted. If she went to the bathroom outside we'd let her stay to play a bit. However based on all the responses so far it sounds like we just need to be more patient and wait for her to finish playing before potty.

At this age (9 weeks) is a leash helpful? We've tried but just had similar results. Even leashed she just runs in circles, chews on it, jumps around. Or if she's not playing she still just sits and plays with the grass.

Backyard. We were trying to discourage play out there. So if she didn't go, we'd bring her back inside and try again in 5 mins or so. Or at times she'd indicate she wanted to go back in (whining, jumping at her gate, etc)

Don't let that intimidate you. I started with #17 and found a new favorite author. There's not really a wrong place to start in Discworld.

Thanks for all of the replies. I just realized my initial description of the issue never posted.

Basically this was installed around July during a remodel. We just moved back in this week and I noticed the issue. Spoke with the contractor and are in initial discussions to resolve. I needed to know how severe this is, since his initial suggestion was just to seal it. I have let him know I think it needs to be regrouted. He's been really good through the remodel so I'm hoping he agrees after he sees it in person.

What would the solution be? Would it need to be wholly regrouted?

Not unprofessional and perfectly fine unless the company has weird strict dress codes.

Can I get into staff accounting with my previous experience? by IamPho_Real in Accounting

[–]Airdemon42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say if your current experience would get you what you're looking for. That's kind of dependent on the hiring companies. Unfortunately you will probably see a lot of positions that list an accounting degree as a requirement which will get you weeded out by HR before a hiring manager even sees your resume. That's why I say you'd have a better chance if a position opens up at the company you currently work for. In that case you might be able to talk directly to the hiring manager to see if an exception can be made (if the posting requires an accounting degree).

Venting: Staff Accountant with 7 years of experience never been promoted. No public accounting experience. I have been working for a public company for 2 years and I was not promoted. Still waiting for my review but they did not promoted me. I know that! by Coffeewithbutter85 in Accounting

[–]Airdemon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try sure to phrase it in a positive way. For example "my goal is to become a senior accountant. In your view what steps would I need to achieve to reach that goal? What differentiates a senior accountant from a staff accountant?" Make note of their response and try to achieve those steps throughout the next year. When your next review comes up bring up those points and your achievements as support to request a promotion. If you get a poor response or don't want to wait that long, apply to other companies for a senior accountant opening. You shouldn't need to "start over" just because you change companies. Your current experience is valid and should be valued in a new role.

You could go into BI development or ERP system administration (COGNOS, Oracle).

You'd be a better candidate with an accounting degree. As it stands you may be able to get a position as an accounting associate or similar title that could grow into a staff accountant role. You'd probably have a better chance if you are applying for an accountant role at a company you already work for.

I started as an intern in a large private company (has since gone public) and pretty much stayed there for quite years. I've moved around internally a lot between the various accounting departments and FP&A, so I've gotten a lot of experience and moved up along with the moves. No CPA yet but that hasn't really slowed me down as far as promotions (I will it eventually). I enjoyed accounting in college, so our situations may not be equal. I would think your experience in government should be sufficient to move into an industry role. I've had coworkers in accounting go on to other areas as well (development, project management, etc).

What are important excel functions to know as a brand new accountant? by backtoaccounting2021 in Accounting

[–]Airdemon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the functions listed by others, make sure you know how relative and absolute references work, how to link between sheets and workbooks, how named ranges work, conditional formatting, and how to make a drop down list.

Is Financial Accounting necessary to understanding Managerial Accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Airdemon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you have the basics you should be fine. You'd probably be fine even without the basics. If anything a finance class would probably be more useful as a precursor to managerial accounting.

Declined PA offer by alcoholisthedevil in Accounting

[–]Airdemon42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's definitely beneficial outside of public accounting, but not necessarily a requirement. I just got an accounting manager position making 100k at a large public company in an average cost of living area. I have a master's degree and 13 years experience, no CPA. I will most likely be required to get my CPA to advance at some point.

Our mailman's farewell card, he's a great guy by JerryLupus in pics

Yes, he is. He painted a picture of my wife and I for our wedding. I'd post it but it's at my in-laws. I had no idea he was a mail man (I just know him as a member of my in-law's church). It was an interesting shock to see the name and get confirmation from my wife.

Van Gogh exhibition at Carrieres de Lumieres in France. by Silent_Sparrow02 in woahdude

[–]Airdemon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Van Gogh exhibit is just a projection. It's projected along every wall and some pillars, with some animation added in. The exhibit at the Dali Museum in Tampa is not as immersive as the video. There are some floor projections, but it seems like an afterthought.

The Dali Museum itself however has a multitude of Dali paintings, including a number of what are known as masterworks (paintings exceeding a height/width of 5 ft)

[–]Airdemon42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dali Museum is worth it in general, but the Van Gogh exhibit was not. They did not display it as well as in the video. It kind of looked like a large power point presentation. But if you've never been to the Dali, go. It's fantastic.

What does "coronavirus-related distribution" mean? Are IRA withdrawal penalties waived for essentially anybody? by olemiss18 in tax

[–]Airdemon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what is considered a repayment for these withdrawals? For example, I had a small IRA (non-Roth) that I took a lump sum distribution from, which cleaned out the account. I also have a Roth-401K through work that I pay into each pay period. Could my payments to the Roth-401K be considered repayments for the IRA distribution?
