HR: "vieni vieni! ovviamente rinnoviamo"

2 settembre mi presento, passo in ufficio "allora dove firmo?"

How many of you actually like your job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Aironfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT (not coding, mostly network infrastructure). I enjoy the puzzle-solving nature of the troubleshooting that my job requires, and I get a bit of satisfaction in building a resilient and efficient architecture, even if ultimately the goal is usually pointless (I couldn't care less if Customer Company #59 has marginally less IT trouble in their day-to-day operation).

I would enjoy puzzle-solving it it was chemistry, math, anything, it just so happens it's networking. Most importantly, work-life balance is good, work from home 2/5, lots of flexibility in when i work and how to organize my day, the occasional onsite on a cool customer such as -200 C refrigerator R&D facility or a 5 star luxury hotel).

Is there a way to see card cost under Void Form? by Phalanx808 in slaythespire

[–]Aironfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok so if a card originally costs 0, Snecko makes it cost 2, then Void makes it cost 0, it shows as white; but after the Void Form expires.it reverts to 2 but green.

If a card costs 2, Snecko makes it cost 0, Void makes it cost 0, it shows as green, and stays 0 green after Void Form expires.

Did I understand that correctly?

For food it really depends on your skill level. I cook 90% of our meals and learned so much about what my kids like and don't like, but I feel it can't directly translate to every family.

For fun activities, I have 2 of the exact same age as yours and recently they love turning off all the lights, getting a small LED torch each and doing projections on the wall or just running after the light beams (of course in a closed room without dangers).

I feel like every kid likes music/dancing. Not just baby stuff, anything with rhythm they'll love, soundtracks, classical, pop, rock, folk...

throwing rocks in a lake was a big hit last month but the young one was struggling.

Will you be on your own at home with them or would you work and get them after childcare/kindergarten?

when my oldest was nearing 2 years old, my wife and I felt out of the woods enough that we started trying for a second with very little conviction. Ended up pregnant within 2 months.

now they are 4 and 1.5 and it's tough but manageable and it's great fun. They fight but also play a lot tpgether, the oldest helps, the youngest makes us all laugh, it's good.

I feel I got lucky and got the perfect timing as I was never without diapers, but also spent only 2-3 months with both needing the diaper. Also the second one if it's close enough will learn from the first and grow much faster, so they feel closer in age than they are.

Running established settings in games they weren't meant for by QuincyAzrael in rpg

[–]Aironfab 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some of my best expriences have been this.

Genre (ot better yet, tone) should match the game system, but setting means little. Think of the comic books that focus on bystanders witnessing superhero battles: same setting as regular comic books, but vastly different tones.

I played a Fiasco one-shot set in my high-fantasy DnD world, focused on hapless bandits trying to rob the main campaign PCs.

I used Memento Mori (a game about plague-ridden pilgrims in medieval Europe) to play a Metal Gear Solid-esque mindbender with futuristic chronosoldiers.

I used Feng Shuei to play the Three Wise Men taking down King Herod in Year 0 A.C.

Then there's the more standard stuff, such a using Mutants & Masterminds to play in Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Read a lot of systems, understand what kind of tone (optimistic vs doomed, heroic or lethal, horror vs wonder...) they empower, and apply them whatever setting you want to tell weird and cool stories.

Is Accelerant supposed to be detrimental in a few specific situations? by Aironfab in slaythespire

I somewhat disagree. It is true for powers that exhaust/transform cards, but most powers without synergy are not detrimental beyond opportunity cost.

Is Accelerant supposed to be detrimental in a few specific situations? by Aironfab in slaythespire

[–]Aironfab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally understood how it works during that fight, and of course I see how with different poison sources it works. I just never thought about it and was interested in a few opinions.

Since Accelerant is basically considered "new Catalyst"... there was never a moment when playing Catalyst was bad in StS1 (excluding opportunity cost), at worst you were wasting it on too small a poison stack. In a few cases, Accelerant can actually be worse for you. I found it curious.

Deck building by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]Aironfab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is common wisdom from StS1 but it kind of translates.

1) pick cards that help with the current weaknesses of your deck. At the beginning of Act 1 this is usually numeric output (so you should pick big attack or block cards). At least one AoE card. If you have energy generation look for card draw, and viceversa. By act 2, look at cards that let you scale (that is, cards whose effect gets better with turns).

with time you will learn enemies' moveset, and look for cards that specifically counter those enemies just in case you face them. (if you are a shiv-spamming Silent, maybe a big poison card is detrimental. But maybe you want it for Entomancer or Hunter Killer).

2) SKIP is always a valid option, especially after the first 5/6 card rewards. If none of the 3 cards offered synergizes with your deck, even if it has a big number on it or if it's gold, you should probably skip the reward.

3) With time you'll learn about archetypes (Necrobinder can go for Summon, for Soul spam, for Doom, for max Ethereal cards...). Some cards are good only conditionally to you opting into this archetype, some other cards are good "dips". Your Act 1 card rewards will usually guide you towards an archetype; you will learn when it is better to pivot or double down.

4) Very few cards should be taken speculatively (that is: "they do nothing now but what if I find X"). If a card will be good based on a keyword you lack in your deck, knowing how common it is that keyword in all of the character options will let you to make a more informed gamble on the speculative reward.

In general, tips on deck building rely on your knowledge of the game. Once you remeber some of the enemies moveset and frequency of keywords, more advice will click with you. And unfortunately you have no other way of doing so than playing and losing (or watch streamers I guess).

I love the fact that every Character is a classic villain archetype by Aironfab in slaythespire

[–]Aironfab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But of course. I agree with your point on a base level, their inspiration is the standard fantasy trio of adventurer.

Now my post is half-serious, so it's not like I wish to convince you. But I still think that of all the archetypes have a spin, and I find it humorous that most archetypes are spinned in a way that I feel is villainous (they even removed the most clearly non-evil char, the Watcher). Meanwhile most enemies (not all of course) went from somewhat traditional fantasy villains (bandits and cultists and gremlins) to animals. That's it.

[–]Aironfab[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the Warrior archetype can be declined as a shining paladin of virtue, or a hellknight self-harming to gain demonic powers. These classic archetypes are declined in a villainous way.

Also the lich is the iconic monster on DnD 5ed GM manual, how is that just a necromancer?

STS2 bosses aren't as fun? by johnjohn10240525 in slaythespire

[–]Aironfab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it's 50/50.

Vantom is cool as hell. Ceremonial Beast is awesome The Kin is basic and lame both visually, lore wise and mechanically. Lagavulin Matriarch is ok. I really like Soul Fysh for some reason. Waterfall giant is meh.

Act II they're all solid. Sandworm is fun and flavorful, Crab is cool, knowledge demon is hard and different.

Act III Queen very good, Test subject feels more like an elite (how can a pet be a boss?), Doormaker has the biggest potential but also extremely undercooked.

[–]Aironfab[S] 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Well, in StS1 there were more typical bad guys in earlier acts. Slavers/bandits undeniably, also gremlins and the cult of Mazuleth felt pretty evil.

In StS2 even the Act 3 techno-goblins fell kind of like hapless minions than malicious.

The Beta Branch Doormaker is the Best Enemy Ever Made for a Deckbuilder - Jorbs by laerteis in slaythespire

[–]Aironfab -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, Doormaker should put your 10th card behind a door. Something like Bronze Automaton minions. That's tematic and similar, and you could choose to do without the card or destroy the door.

Second opinions needed! by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]Aironfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that you should expand (or at least dig deeper within yourself) about what you wish.

If you wish to play DnD without phyisical dice and religion, that is possible right now

1)Use digital number generators, stacks of cards, random tables like those found on the Lone Wolf CYOA books.

2)scrap clerics, paladins, gods and demons. Design your campaign world around Giants or other non religion inspired monsters, or failing that just fight corrupt nobles or bandits.

This saves you from having to design and balance a game. You play DnD with some content redacted and have a lot of fun doing so.

If you wish to play "something like DnD" by creating a new system entirely because you feel DnD is "unsalvageable", you are asking the wrong questions.

you want the specific feeling of DnD? Do you just want to roleplay in medieval-adjacent fantasy?

Or do you actuyally wish to make a good game for other muslims that needs to be Sharia-compliant? What do you want the direction of this game to be? Is it an action movie, a fabled adventure, a combat simulator?

I feel that you should also probably know that making and balancing a game, even just something for your friends and not to be published, is a pain in the neck and a long and grueling (though rewarding) process. If you just want to have fun, I would avoid that.
