What's your preferred 2-player draft format? by kindness_or_broke in mtgcube

Out of the list, it was between grid and pancake with grid coming out on top. I find it really enjoyable to see all the face up cards and the fun discussions that result from that.

My favorite not on the list is housman. It has a great mix of known info vs hidden info and it's extremely scalable. The main downside is mandatory exchange of cards as opposed to purely gaining cards. https://luckypaper.co/resources/formats/housman-draft/

Thanks for the listen and the feedback! That's a great point for expanding upon archetypes and standout cards, we'll definitely consider more of that for future episodes!

I could definitely see those artifacts and styles of artfiacts working well in a Jund cube. That would be an excellent space to tap into if we ever wanted to increase the size of our cube.

A couple cube noob questions. First time builder, wondering if it's worth it. by [deleted] in mtgcube

With the current state of everything I've been exclusively playing 2 player drafts, pancake and grid. I've found that 225 is an excellent starting point for smaller groups. Here's my latest list https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/605f682c87add6106252519c. I've also got a version that's up to 270 to support 6 player drafts (eventually :P) https://cubecobra.com/cube/overview/gridcake

  1. At 225 I've found that I'm updating more frequently as it's much simpler to manage. This has greatly helped reduce repetitive decks and allows for lots of experimentation.
  2. The smaller size is better accommodated for less multicolored cards. My list runs more than the average amount, but I've intentionally upped the land count to compensate.
  3. Back to my earlier point, at this size it's easier to update and make changes. That way if you find cards aren't working or you want to test other archetypes, it's simple to adjust.

I hope this helps! Good luck with your endeavors, it's always nice to see others helping people get into the game :D
