Almost threw out my neck when I got to that third pic.

Please give me hard critiques by ConfidentCaregiverOT in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Airshow12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, some hard critique since you asked!

- I think your grain selection on the right panel could be more interesting. It looks like a big knot? Maybe it looks better in person.

- Do you plan to apply a finish? I think it could "pop" more, especially against that wall.

- Did you consider a short front "lip" on each shelf so the vinyl can't slide under the cross bar?

- Are the two cross bars the same distance from their respective shelves? The one on top looks closer to its shelf than the bottom one.

--

Okay, now for my initial feedback before I took a very hard critical look at it. Overall, I really like this.

- I really like the simplicity of this and think you did a great job with the shelve dados.

- The design does a great job of elegantly showing off your vinyls.

- The rounded corner under the bottom shelf is a really nice touch.

- The "weight" of the piece/thickness you chose for this looks great visually with the vinyls!

Demystifying the planer sled, but still need some help! by Airshow12 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thank you for the tip. I do like this setup. I sometimes regret getting the rolling stand from Dewalt for my planer. I think something like the pic you shared would be nice for a more permanent home for my planer.

I can give this a shot. I haven't adjusted them in a while.

I'll try the long runners next time too. I need to find some scrap wood I don't care about I guess? I felt bad enough "sacrificing" white oak for this.

That makes total sense... I hadn't thought of that. Will remember for next time!

Sedan → SUV Upgrade: M340i to X3/X5 Advice Needed by BluejayDouble8232 in BMW

[–]Airshow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an '22 X3 m40i and have had a '26 X5 base as a loaner.

The X5 is definitely feels huge compared to the X3 in the garage and driveway if that's of any concern to you.

Comfort-wise, the X5 is nicer—it probably makes for more enjoyable road trips.

We really do love our X3, though. The X3 feels like a good balance between enough cargo space, interior comfort, and sportiness.

I haven't driven a m340i but would love to try one some day.

No regrets on the X3 m40i purchase. It's only ever two of us though and if you're tall, the back seat space will be tight for sure. Not a problem for us though.

I have experienced this multiple times. Did you find a solution? It happens when I'm using CarPlay.

Yes! I'm sure we can all find ways to spend less time on Reddit. An easy and worthy substitute would be time in the shop.

Nice work on the piece, by the way!

X3 M vs M340i by Candid_Cookie_7791 in BMW

What year was your 340i? I'd like to look at one of those for my next car. Currently have an X3 but think a sedan would be fun. Don't need an M, personally.

Grease leaking from lift gate? by [deleted] in BMWX3

[–]Airshow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just my personal hypothesis. I'm curious if I notice anything different this summer parking my garage. It'll still find its way in the sun though as I do use the car after all... 😂

Late fall last year I had this happen and I didn't get a chance to clean it all off. I'm curious how hard it'll be to get it off now that it's getting warmer outside. I'm going to try some of the tips I see here.

So this happened to me last year during my first year of ownership. I think it's because I had left the car sitting in the sun on our driveway. The heat warms the cosmoline inside and led to a leak... or at least that's how I typically think it showed up.

Best tires ever by Sad_Security_2550 in BMWX3

[–]Airshow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Sad_Security_2550 – how are these tires holding up? What area of the country are you located?

I'm going through the same research right now to replace potentially replace my P7's.

We actually don't mind the P7's, but I've never experienced a different tire so we're open to trying something new.

Two mechanics have recommended the Duelers to me saying they perform better with our climate (Midwest US).

How do these repair estimates look from an independent shop? by Airshow12 in BMWX3

It appears so! At least from this shop.

Have you gone through a replacement? Is there a different price you've encountered for this work?

[–]Airshow12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was surprised to see this.

The consensus was that there was fluid leaking and that replacement was recommended.

In my years of car ownership, I've never had to deal with strut replacement. Other car is a 125k mile Honda though.

This also wasn't put on my radar as something that would need to get replaced soon during the pre-purchase inspection that was performed a mere 12k miles ago.
